NOTE: This article is only about Black Noir II. For information about his predecessor and the original character, see Black Noir (TV Series).

Yo, what the f*ck? That was sooo f*cked up, you guys.
~ Black Noir II to the rest of The Seven after killing Homelander's fans, and also his first words.
Look, playing Noir has been a meaningful challenge, but yesterday was wack as f*ck. I've never actually murdered anyone before. Does Homelander make us kill people, like, a lot? And when he does, do we just... do it? Look, don't get me wrong, I am stocked to be here, and I am down to ride the wave. I'm just having trouble with Noir's motivation, you feel me?
~ Black Noir II's inquiries about his role.
You know what's funny? I hate sake. But I'm supposed to follow some stupid Black ninja bullshit, which makes no goddamn sense, by the way. You ever meet a Black ninja?
~ Black Noir II growing tired of his role.

Black Noir II is a major antagonist in Season 4 of the 2019 Amazon TV adaptation of the comic book series The Boys.

He is a super-powered actor who has been recruited by Vought-International to The Seven to cover up the death of the original at the hands of Homelander. Because of a lack of direction, he is pretty bad at his job and constantly breaks character to ask his teammates on what the original would do, much to their annoyance.

He is portrayed by Nathan Mitchell, who also played the original Black Noir while he was suited.

Personality[]

I just feel like I'm not getting clear direction for this role.
~ Black Noir II to The Deep.

Black Noir II, unlike his silent predecessor, is talkative and excited about how to play the Black Noir. Although disturbed by Homelander's orders to kill innocent people, he complies without hesitation. He often asks for guidance on embodying Noir, despite being told to simply stand quietly. His persistent questioning and chatter annoy the other members of The Seven, also, in a team meeting it was revealed that he suffers from narcolepsy.

He seemed quick to grow attachments, as he evidently felt close enough to the Deep to remain on the Seven, regardless of his disgust over their violence, and feeling without guidance. He also developed strong romantic feelings for Sister Sage, despite the fact that their relationship seemed to be purely physical, which also displayed how he is like most supes in their dependence upon sex, thus he conflated sexual pleasure with intimate love.

He may hold an even lower intelligence than the Deep, as he allowed himself to take his misguided observations as fact; despite Noir II's initial aversion to violence, the Deep's malformed encouragements to embrace bloodshed made him a deranged killer, possibly as bad as or worse than Homelander, since he started experiencing sexual arousal from the act of killing.

This new Black Noir and Deep became very close friends and useful tools for Homelander, since they would always remain loyal to their leader, no matter how cruel and terrible his orders were (just like Firecracker) because deep down they both were enjoying doing awful crimes.

Biography[]

Background[]

Not much is currently known for his past, but he was born around the late 1980s to unnamed parents, and was given superhuman abilities after being injected with Compound V. In his youth, he attended Godolkin University where he studied in performance arts, and later performed in Montreal at Cirque de Vought. He was later hired by Vought-International to replace the original Black Noir following his death by Homelander, but the successor found it difficult to get into his role.

The Boys[]

Season Four[]

Black Noir II first appeared as part of the new line up of The Seven. He, Deep, A-Train, and Homelander met with some fans after a shoot. Homelander then gave the other three members each a bat and ordered the three Supes to kill the fans. Deep and Black Noir II complied with A-Train showing reluctance. After the deed was done, the new hero openly spoke and said it was F-ed up. Black Noir met up with A-Train and voiced his concerns about killing, and about if it went against his character. A-Train, however, wasn't in the mood and just told the newcomer that his whole thing was to be silent.

While he has super strength at the least, it seemed like the primary reason he was hired was due to him being an actor; however, since the original Noir was shrouded in mystery to most, the replacement has little to no directions on how to "play" the character, thus he often breaks the main trait of Noir being mute by asking for clearer information on how to fit the role.

During Tek Knight's party for the elite, Black Noir II and the Deep weren't invited. Noir II, already distressed from having to aid and abet in murder, sits in Homelander's chair in the Seven boardroom, and having removed his mask. The Deep discovers him, and warns him to not sit on Homelander's chair and to put the mask back on; while Noir II moves to another seat, he kept the mask off.

Noir II explains that he was grateful for the opportunity of the role, but he is sick of being unappreciated and planned to leave to do a reliable acting gig elsewhere. The Deep tries to make him change his mind by telling a likely false story about how the original Noir experienced intense sexual gratification after and even from the act of violence and murder. Noir II, however, counters that he doesn't like violence. The Deep then reveals his own struggle and deranged acceptance of their violent deeds, as he claims it provides the greatest pleasure he has ever known; Noir II listens to the argument, seeming to consider it, although not openly accept yet.

The Deep and Black Noir II are sent to the Boys NY headquarters on a mission to kill them, although only Annie and Butcher were present. Annie engaged in a superpowered fistfight with the Deep, while Butcher attempted to hold back Noir II with heavy artillery; Butcher called for help from his dissociate identity, Kessler, however, he doesn't manifest. When the Deep appeared to be overpowering Annie, A-Train arrived, knocking the Deep away, thus openly defected from the Seven; MM also arrived and acquired the minigun to push back the airborne Noir II and knocked him out of the building, while Annie bashed Deep unconscious with a heavy barbell. The Boys and allied supe retreat before Deep and Noir II could recover.

The Deep called Homelander to inform him that A-Train was a traitor, which caused him immense distress. Sister Sage revealed she knew A-Train was the leak and was using him to eventually disseminate misinformation to the Boys and the CIA, however, Homelander is so upset that she withheld this fact from him that he fires her from the Seven, and claims she should be grateful he isn't going to horrifically kill her instead. When Sage leaves via the hallway, she past Noir II and Deep; the Deep attempted to schedule a hook up, but she refused to respond. Deep asked Sage what is wrong, therefore Sage revealed her termination from the team; the Deep almost tried to appeal to her to stay, but Noir II beat him to it, proclaiming he loved her. Deep is confused but upset at the revelation that Sage was concurrently in a sexual relationship with Noir II, apparently the whole time he was with her; Deep felt worse when he asked if Noir II also indulged in Sage's lobotomy then sex arrangement, only to learn the lobotomy was evidently only with him.

Homelander tasked Ashley Barrett to create a list of Vought employees who know compromising information on him and the Seven, although mostly him. Ashley omitted her own name, but the Deep pointed out how she would know more than anyone, so her name is added. Homelander gave the list to Noir II and the Deep with the order to murder everyone on it. After executing numerous people on the list, Noir II mistook Ashley Barrett's assistant Ashley for her, and brutally killed her, yet expressed only annoyance about the prevalence of the name, rather than the slightest guilt about murdering the wrong person, who wasn't even on the list. To reinforce his newfound depravity, the Deep pointed out that Noir II had an erection - a "murder boner" - much to his awe.

Powers and Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Compound V-induced powers: After being injected with Compound V, Noir was gifted with superhuman powers and abilities like other supes.
    • Superhuman Strength: He was able to easily crush a man's skull with one swing of a baseball bat.
    • Superhuman Durability: He is highly resilient to damage and is bulletproof, although significant caliber rounds can cause discomfort and pain if enough hits are managed.
    • Superhuman Hearing: Like many supes, he can hear better than average humans.
    • Flight: Since the original Black Noir lacked the skill of flight, he isn't able to use this power in public to his great chagrin.

Abilities[]

  • Acting Talent: He has college qualifications of performance arts.
  • Swordsmanship: While he falls short of the original Noir, he displayed competent use of bladed weaponry.

Weaknesses[]

  • Narcolepsy: Regardless of the situation, Noir II can abruptly fall asleep, such as during a meeting with the Seven or during his fight against Billy Butcher. Although he can be swiftly awoken without much time.
  • Low Intellect: He is easily manipulated by those higher in the hierarchy, and he ends up believing anything they claim with little or no serious questioning.

Quotes[]

I studied performing arts at Godolkin. I did Cirque de Vought in Montreal. You didn't hire me to stand around like a f-cking oak tree. (...) Some direction. Look, I'm on an island here, okay? I have questions, but I'm not allowed to speak. Like, Noir lives in a ninja dojo apartment, but, best I can tell, he didn't know karate. I need some intentionality here. Is there, like, a playlist I can use to get me inside his head?
~ Black Noir II to Ashley Barrett.
You know what's funny? I hate sake. But I'm supposed to follow some stupid Black ninja bullshit, which makes no goddamn sense, by the way. You ever meet a Black ninja?
~ Black Noir II to the Deep.
Eat a flying dick motherf-
~ Black Noir II to The Boys and A-Train before being shot out of the room by Mother's Milk.
The Deep: Bro.
Black Noir II: Bro.
The Deep: Bro!
Black Noir II: Bro!

Trivia[]

  • Just like some considered his predecessor to be inspired by Deadpool's lethal and mentally unstable aspects, Black Noir II can be seen as a parody of his more comedic aspects, namely his status as a comic relief, his occasional awkwardness and pseudo-self-awareness that throws off his teammates. In a way, reflecting how the character was handled in FOX's X-Men franchise, first being a Merc with No Mouth and later the Merc with A Mouth.
    • Being the softer and mouthy successor to a Batman parody, Black Noir II could be a reference to Terry McGinnis, the Batman from a distant future, who is notorious for throwing quips at his enemies.
  • Noir's narcolepsy is based on on the actor, Nathan Mitchell, who while not narcoleptic himself, would often nap on set.
  • Due to the appearance of Black Noir II in the trailers and teasers of Season 4, many fans believed that this new Noir was a clone of Homelander in disguise, however, in the new chapters of the series his identity was revealed and most likely, the end of the comics with the sadistic clone will not happen.
