~ Blackfire as she reveals her true feelings. |
Blackfire is a major antagonist in Teen Titans Go!. She is the malicious older sister of Starfire and the heir to the throne as the princess of Tamaran.
She is voiced by Hynden Walch, who also voiced Starfire in the same series, Princess Bubblegum in Adventure Time, and Harley Quinn in The Batman.
Biography[]
Blackfire made her first appearance in the episode "Mr. Butt."
Blackfire came to visit Earth where her sister was, knowing she'll use her to escape imprisonment. She went to visit her "favorite" little sister with metal handcuffs binding her wrists. Starfire believed her supposed good intentions and happily reconciled with her sister.
Blackfire came into the Titans Tower with Starfire, garnering a chilly reception from all of the other Titans. Blackfire was quick to start hitting on Robin, but Robin told her that he had no feelings for her, as he's only attracted to people who are sweet and innocent. This did not stop Blackfire from continuing to pursue him. Robin pulled Starfire aside to remind her of who Blackfire is: a galaxy-wide most wanted criminal, who has sabotaged her and ruined her life every time she gets involved with it. Then, the Titans tried to warn Starfire. However, Starfire believed that this time would be different. Starfire asserted that if Blackfire were to betray her again, she would finally put her foot down and dish out the proper punishment.
Blackfire then invited Starfire to have a makeover with her. Blackfire dressed Starfire up with darker hair, eyeliner, and clothing. This little sisterly bonding activity seemed innocent enough at first, and Starfire was surely enjoying it. However, a giant police robot flew by the window of the Tower and detected Starfire. Blackfire quickly hid behind the curtain and ratted Starfire out, claiming that Starfire was the wanted fugitive, Blackfire. Starfire's makeover was convincing enough that the robot mistook her for Blackfire and took her to prison.
Meanwhile, Blackfire continued on about her day as nothing happened. She strolled through the living room and watched Robin dance. She admired watching the movement of his butt and even complimented him on it, before he noticed that Starfire was missing. Robin quickly assembled the other Titans to dig up the lawn and Blackfire calmed them down by telling them about Starfire's true whereabouts. The Titans all shamed her for this, stating that they should never have trusted her to begin with. Blackfire admitted that the reason she cared so little about how she mistreated her sister was that nobody taught her how to be a good sister. The other Titans saw this as a reason to educate her on how to be a better sister.
Blackfire's first lesson was listening. Cyborg instructed a rather indifferent Blackfire to hold Beast Boy's hand and listen to his problems in a kind and caring manner. Blackfire clutched Beast Boy's hand violently and, when Beast Boy complained, she did not respond enthusiastically. The Titans moved onto the second lesson: hugging. Blackfire was simply told to hug the other Titans, but Blackfire flinched in disgust and punched them all away. Blackfire happily hugged Robin, however, due to her liking him. However, being the violent woman she is, Blackfire crushed Robin, Their final lesson involved the Titans dressing up like Starfire and acting like her, but Blackfire insulted the Titans for doing this.
Robin finally snapped and yelled at Blackfire, saying he had no idea how Starfire could ever love her. Blackfire froze in shock upon hearing that Starfire actually loved her. Blackfire then had a flashback to when she was a baby and she stole a doll from Starfire. Starfire tried to get it back from her at first, but eventually just let her keep it, knowing that it made her sister happy and gave her a hug. After remembering this, Blackfire was finally ready to stop her hateful ways and become a better sister. The Titans were happy to know that they finally got through to her and were on their way to making some real progress.
Blackfire was redeemed and she began treating the other Titans with legitimate respect. Cyborg told Blackfire that Starfire would be very happy to see her sister again. However, Starfire's return after escaping from prison showed that Starfire had changed in the time she was gone: she was quite muscular and had a vicious look in her eyes. Blackfire tried to greet her nicely, but Starfire quickly turned on her. Starfire resented her sister for sending her to prison, and eventually she launched a full-scale assault on her older sister, even destroying the doll that Blackfire returned to her in the process. Blackfire fell exhausted and unconscious from Starfire's endless onslaught, but Starfire assured the others that they "had worked things out."
In "The Titans Show," Control Freak assembled a team of supervillains to fight the Teen Titans in one epic battle, including Blackfire. Blackfire shot a bunch of lilac lasers at Starfire. Blackfire then teamed up with See-More and Dr. Light to combine their laser-based superpowers to make a giant blast against Starfire.
In "Justice League's Next Top Talent Idol Star," Blackfire appeared in a non-speaking cameo, in a flashback of Starfire's telling the audience about how Blackfire had betrayed and exiled her own younger sister from their world in order for Blackfire to seize the throne and rule as a tyrannical queen over her own people.
Blackfire then returned in "Girls Night In," where she served as the main antagonist of the two-part special. Starfire was throwing a "Girls Night In" slumber party for Bumblebee, Raven, and all of their friends. Starfire also invited Blackfire and was hoping that she would arrive, even though Raven maintained that she would not be showing up. Starfire still remained optimistic and hoped to do a lot of positive sisterly bonding with Blackfire that night. However, much time passed and there was still no sign of Blackfire showing up, so they decided to start the party without her.
The crime alert soon sounded, as a giant diamond-shaped alien spacecraft landed in Jump City. The girls showed up on the scene to fight this potential villain, only to find that it was Blackfire. Starfire seems happy to see her for their slumber party for sisterly bonding. Blackfire was quick to shut her down and tell Starfire that she wasn't here to party. Blackfire explained that her elaborate alien spacecraft would function as an interdimensional portal that would summon an army. Starfire assumed that Blackfire was just pranking her, but Blackfire made it very clear that she was not pulling a prank on her and that she hated sisterly bonding.
Blackfire was done with the niceness and decided it was time to have some real fun, by putting up a fight against Starfire and the girls. Blackfire charged herself up. After all the attacks, Raven, Bumblebee, Jinx, Terra, and Rose all surrounded Blackfire and prepared to attack her once again, but Blackfire was ready to fight back. Just then, Blackfire turned around to see Starfire standing face to face with her. Starfire was infuriated over Blackfire's past actions and blazed her with her neon green power. The girls cheered over their victory as Blackfire, laid on the ground, painfully hurt.
Raven alerted Blackfire to surrender right then and there, but Blackfire got back up and chuckled. She reasserted that she was there to take over the world and nothing was going to stop her. Blackfire punched a crater into the street and sarcastically told Starfire that she was going to bond with her now, with her new battle armor, Blackfire easily overpowered her assailants, trapping them in metal braces. Starfire then broke free from the brace and flies toward Blackfire, instead embracing her with sisterly love. Blackfire shared her true feelings in "Truth or Death"; she then wished she didn't have a sister. Nevertheless, her victory didn't last long as Starfire united with the rest of Girls Night Out crew and Blackfire got beaten up while being insulted as "florfka" and ultimately was disowned by Starfire before getting thrown into her own device.
Blackfire makes a cameo in "Ship", and later a comeback in "Wild Card". In the latter episode, she encounters Starfire and her four best friends/crewmates on Tamaran, where she steal an immensely powerful and rare Tamaranian artifact dubbed as Crown of King Fire. At first she is fooled by the crew's cake doppelgängers, until she discovers the Lost City of Tamaran after interrogating Robin. Although initially having the upper hand against Starfire by enhancing herself with the Crown of King Fire, she is eventually defeated once again thanks to Robin being the literal wild card. She is then arrested and upon realizing that Starfire wants to impose house arrest on her, then begs to be taken to space jail instead.
Appearance[]
Blackfire is similar to Starfire, with a few minor changes to the shape and plenty of major changes to the color palette. Blackfire has dark purple hair, which is spiky at the end and slightly shorter than Starfire's. She has paler skin than her sister and her eyes are purple instead of green and she only has one eyelash on each eye as opposed to two. She also wears a dark black outfit that's the same as Starfire's except for the color and the fact that it's a one-piece with metal covering the stomach region of the costume. Her eyes and hands glow a bright lilac when using her greater energy-based powers of ultraviolet energy projection.
Personality[]
Blackfire is a malicious and cold-hearted villain, who uses her charm and good looks to get what she wants. Blackfire still feels the need to prove herself as being worth more than Starfire. Blackfire is a lot smarter than her sister, and she's more fluent in English. Blackfire prides herself on being better than Starfire in this area. She does this as a way to make up for the series of horrible and inexcusable unknown crimes she's committed all across the galaxy, leading to her getting put in jail multiple times.
