Blackjack is a minor antagonist in the Transformers franchise, especially Generation One, where he functions as the leader of the Sports Car Patrol. He is based on a figure from the 1989 toyline.
Marvel Comics[]
Blackjack was briefly seen in the UK-exclusive story "A Small War", as one of the Decepticon Micromasters being constructed by Thunderwing. However, his only major appearance was during the "Return of Megatron" arc that ran from US Issues #56 to #59.
Blackjack was the first Decepticon encountered by Megatron after he had spent some time on Cybertron suffering from amnesia. The sight of Blackjack battling two Autobots was enough to awaken Megatron's memory: He came to Blackjack's rescue and inducted him and the rest of the Sports Car Patrol as the first members of his new Decepticon army.
Blackjack and his patrol used a transdimensional portal to travel to the Ark, which was nearly deserted after most of the crew had been lured to Earth by Megatron's agents there, the Air Strike Patrol. Blackjack managed to gain control of the deactivated Autobots in the repair bay and had them attack Ratchet, hoping to drive him to insanity by forcing him to fight his friends. Instead, Ratchet was willing to die rather than damage them further, forcing Blackjack to turn them off. He and his patrol then approached Ratchet disguised as Autobots and offered to take him to Cybertron to use the advanced medical facilities there to repair his friends.
While the rest of the patrol delivered Ratchet to Megatron, Blackjack remained behind on the Ark, knocking out the skeleton crew and planting explosives all over the ship. This gave Megatron leverage to force Ratchet to help him, with Blackjack remaining on hand to trigger the explosives anyway once Ratchet's co-operation wasn't necessary. However, Blackjack panicked when he saw the shuttle carrying most of the Autobots from Earth, led by Getaway, was returning to the Ark. He was then held at gunpoint by Kup, who had been left in charge of the Ark and recovered from Blackjack's early attack, causing him to drop the trigger device and start the countdown on the explosives.
Held prisoner by the Autobots, Blackjack insisted there was no way to disable the explosives and they should abandon ship. Kup, however, knew there was not enough time and also refused to abandon the deactivated Autobots aboard the Ark. Ratchet managed to reopen the transdimensional portal and the Autobots sent the explosives through them, where they destroyed Megatron's base.
