~ Blitzwing upon finding Bumblebee on Earth.

Blitzwing is the overarching antagonist of the 2018 science fiction action film Bumblebee, the first installment in the rebooted continuity of Paramount PicturesTransformers film series and the sixth installment overall.

He is a Triple Changer and a Decepticon seeker who transforms into a red/white McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom II.

He was voiced by David Sobolov, who also voiced Gorilla Grodd in The Flash, The Annihilator in Mighty Med, Lobo in Young Justice and Injustice, Shockwave in Transformers: Prime, Brawl in Transformers: The Game, Ripa 'Moramee in Halo Wars, Dr. Fate in Injustice 2, and Kaido in One Piece.

Biography[]

Movie Prequel[]

Blitzwing functioned as Diabla's handler during her time as an Autobot spy during the Great War, but was humiliated by the Autobot Bumblebee. Left for dead, Blitzwing swore revenge on the scout, and planned for years until he made it to Earth.

Amidst the Cold War on Earth, Blitwing was lead by Malignus, and reunited with the scout in London, 1964. Unable to beat Blitzwing, Bumblebee caused a distraction with a gas main and fled, thinking that the former was leading the Decepticons on Earth.

Malignus and Blitzwing attempted to kill Bumblebee, but were prevented by Diabla, and lost their allies Astrotrain (due to disgust of Malignus' leadership), Runabout (who was slaughtered by Dead End under Malignus' orders). Left to fight against Diabla, he almost succeeded until he was stopped by the scout and ended up killing Dead End. Blitzwing escaped by using Dead End's corpse as a shield, and was being hunted by Bumblebee for the next two decades.

The events of this comic are non-canon to the film, as they are based around an earlier draft of the script.

Bumblebee[]

Following the Autobots' evacuation of Cybertron, Blitzwing was able to trail Autobot scout B-127 to Earth, take the form of an Air Force jet and locate the lone Autobot all in rapid succession. He unexpectedly appeared right overhead Agent Jack Burns’ squadron after they had surrounded his target in a clearing, confusing the Sector Seven agent as to how the Air Force had already been notified of their situation. Bliztwing didn't wait long to drop his ruse, however, swooping down from above and bombarding both human and Autobot alike with missiles. Blitzwing then transformed into his robot mode to attack his target directly and mostly had the upper hand thanks to his flight capabilities, but took damage to his flight systems when B-127 fought back as their fight led to the top of a rocky mountain side. However, the vicious Seeker soon subdued the scout with his superior firepower, grabbed him, and dangled him over a cliff as he interrogated him about the other Autobots' whereabouts. When B-127 refused to answer and defiantly asserted that he would "never talk", Blitzwing then used an arm blade to tear Bumblebee's own voice synthesizer out and then threw him off of the cliff, making his statement "official". Confronting the heavily damaged Autobot on the ground, Bliztwing prepared to execute him as a "traitor", but he was then taken by surprise when B-127 tore a missile from his arm, literally jammed it right into his chest and Bumblebee kicked himself away from the vile Decepticon Seeker, as the Decepticon tries to pull it out, but it's stuck before B-127 firing upon the missile, instantly blowing Blitzwing to pieces, successfully killing him for good.

Despite his death, Blitzwing's actions had many consequences for B-127 and the Autobot's cause. Aside from depriving him of his speech, the additional wounds Blitzwing inflicted on B-127 damaged his memory cells, forcing him into stasis lock in vehicle form for several months, preventing him from carrying out his mission and delaying the Autobots' relocation mission. When B-127 was awakened indirectly by the human Charlie Watson, he was rendered amnesiac and childlike, leaving him in Charlie's care until his memories were restored. However, this didn't happen until B-127 was nearly killed by Shatter and Dropkick, causing him to accidentally broadcast a message from Optimus Prime, detailing his mission to relocate the Autobots to Earth. This prompted Shatter and Dropkick to summon a Decepticon invasion fleet which B-127 and Charlie very narrowly averted.

Blitzwing's actions also alerted Sector 7 to the Transformers' existence and the collateral damage from his battle with B-127 and the betrayal of Shatter and Dropkick (who'd manipulated Sector 7 into helping them) caused them to view both Autobots and Decepticons as hostile, further jeopardizing the Autobots' mission on Earth. Only Jack Burns currently knows the distinction after B-127 saved him from Shatter.

Personality[]

Blitzwing was arrogant and sadistic, enjoying his relentless and brutal attack on Bumblebee, and even mocking him for his courage, before ripping out his voice box. Blitzwing was shown to have no mercy whatsoever, having no second thoughts on killing multiple soldiers, or Bumblebee. He was also shown to toy with Bumblebee, choosing to drop him from a cliff rather than straight up killing him. This arrogance ultimately proved to be his downfall, as Bee was able to outsmart Blitzwing and kill him in their fight

Powers and Abilities[]

Blitwing was heavily armed, and possessed a range of missiles and explosives. He had a hand needle blade which he used to rip Bumblebee's voice box and had a subsonic gun. As well as his vast cattily of weapons, Blitzwing could also fly in bot mode, able to slam Bumblebee from the air during their fight. He was also strong, as he could lift Bee up with ease, and was shown to be a fearsome combatant, easily defeating Bumblebee, but only being defeated by the sheer luck of the Autobot jamming his own missile into his armor.

Powers[]

Cybertronian Physiology: As a Cybertronian, Blitwing possesses numerous enhanced abilities due to his mechanical nature.

  • Superhuman Strength: Blitwing's physical strength far exceeds that of ordinary Cybertronians, allowing him to overpower most opponents with ease. He is also able to lift Bee when flying and manage to held him with one hand in their fight.
  • Superhuman Durability: His body is highly resistant to damage, making him capable of withstanding heavy attacks and harsh environments without sustaining significant injury.
  • Superhuman Speed: Blitwing moves with exceptional speed, outpacing most Cybertronians and performing swift maneuvers in battle.
  • Superhuman Agility: Despite his size, Blitwing exhibits remarkable agility, allowing him to perform complex movements and dodge attacks with precision.
  • Superhuman Stamina: He can operate for extended periods without tiring, making him highly effective in prolonged combat scenarios.
  • Superhuman Reflexes: Blitwing’s advanced reflexes enable him to react to threats in a fraction of a second, giving him an edge in fast-paced battles.
  • Flight: Blitwing's has rocket thrusters/jet boosters on his feet, allowing him to fly. He also has wings that he uses to fly, and with some boosters on his feet that makes him to fly more stable and faster due to the speed and balances when he fly because of the wings.
  • Longevity: Like all Cybertronians, Blitwing can live for millions of years, making him nearly ageless and able to withstand the passage of time without physical degradation.
  • Transformation: Blitwing can turn into a Cybertronian jet (later an Air Force jet), allowing him to fly at extreme speeds. He can manifest various weapons from his body, including blasters and missile launchers.

Abilities[]

  • Expert Combatant: Blitwing is a highly powerful fighter in advanced combat, combining hand-to-hand techniques, weapon usage and even switching between robot and vehicle forms partially or fully to maintain an edge.

Weaknesses[]

  • Arrogance: Blitwing's weakness is his arrogance. Despite having Bee down, he failed to finish him off.

Notes[]

  • Blitzwing's portrayal in the Bumblebee Movie Prequel appears to be linked to an early draft of Bumblebee, in which he is battling Bumblebee because he was tracking him down to resolve some unfinished business, hence why the comic ends with the two in battle. However, the film was reworked to the point where Blitzwing is only battling Bumblebee by pure coincidence.
    • Along those lines, Blitzwing was intended to be depicted in the film as a Triple Changer, like previous namesakes before him, before the film's revisions changed his appearance to an ordinary Seeker, hence why he shares a lot of similarities to Generation 1 Starscream.
    • When the teaser and official trailer's for the Bumblebee Movie Prequel appeared, many fans mistook Blitzwing for Starscream due to both of them appearing to be almost alike.
  • Although he is called Blitzwing, his name is not called in the film but is shown on the credits.
