Blockbuster is a supporting antagonist in the DC Comics universe. He is an enemy of the Justice League and a member of the Secret Society of Super-Villains and the Suicide Squad.

Biography[]

Modern Age[]

Mark Desmond was a chemist who desired to become stronger and began experimenting on himself to try and increase his strength. He eventually created a serum that gave him body he wanted, but also transformed him into a mindless brute; incapable of speech. Mark was cared for by his brother Roland Desmond, who used him to commit crimes until they were stopped by Batman and Robin.

Since then, Mark found himself opposing the Caped Crusader on various occasions and became a member of the Secret Society of Super Villains during a battle with the Justice League.

During the Legends storyline, Blockbuster was recruited by Amanda Waller's new Suicide Squad, and died battling Darkseid's creation Brimstone. After Mark's death, Roland became the new Blockbuster. At least two other mindless, anonymous Blockbusters were created for the Secret Society of Super-Villains.

New 52[]

In the new timeline, the original Blockbuster, Mark Desmond, is alive and well. He was bought under Necromancer's mind-controlled and forced into helping her steal an artifact from a Washington D.C. museum, but was stopped by Hawk and Dove teamed up with Batman and Robin.

Powers and Abilities[]

As Mark Desmond, he possesses expertise in chemistry. As Blockbuster, he has immense strength, stamina, and durability. A side-effect of the formula made him completely mindless.

Mark Desmond/Blockbuster appears in Justice League Unlimited, voiced by Dee Bradley Baker. This version is a member of Gorilla Grodd's Secret Society.
Mark Desmond appears in The Batman episode "Meltdown", voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson. This version is an African-American scientist working for Wayne Enterprises.
Mark Desmond/Blockbuster appears in Batman: The Brave and the Bold, voiced by both James Arnold Taylor and Kevin Michael Richardson. This version stole chemicals from S.T.A.R. Labs to create his strength-enhancing serum.
Mark Desmond/Blockbuster appears in Young Justice, voiced by the late René Auberjonois and Dee Bradley Baker. This version is a scientist member of The Light. His monstrous appearance is also similar to Hulk from Marvel Comics.
A different version of Mark Desmond appears in the Arrowverse series The Flash, portrayed by an uncredited actor. He only appeared in the episode "Funeral for a Friend", as a criminal using a exo-suit stolen from Ivo Laboratories.

An alternate version of Blockbuster appears in Justice League: Gods and Monsters, voiced by Marcelo Tubert. This version was a terrorist killed by this universe's Batman.
Mark Desmond/Blockbuster appears in Scooby-Doo! & Batman: The Brave and the Bold, voiced by Fred Tatasciore.
