I don't question Chaos. Once I did, and see what I am. A spirit, cast down centuries from body to body!
~ The Queen recounts her past

The Blood Red Queen of Hearts is a major antagonist of the comic book series Vampirella and a servant of the Mad God Chaos.

History[]

The Queen was once a mortal woman, born in Ancient Babylon with the given name Jezebel. A woman of captivating beauty, she became high priestess of the Cult of Chaos and used her feminine charms to lure men (and sometimes women) into her cult, only to sacrifice their hearts to her god. She served Chaos faithfully for many years, until she offended her master by demanding that he make her his queen, which would have granted her eternal life and power.

Outraged by her audacity, Chaos devised an ironic punishment for his servant. He stripped the flesh from her shapely body, but bound her soul within a Queen of Hearts playing card. Although Jezebel's wish for immortality had indeed been granted, she was condemned to remain trapped within the card forever. She laments her fate but remains devoted to her master, and her new existence is dedicated to serving him. Still hoping to become Chaos's bride, she has spent the centuries sacrificing more humans to him whenever she is able to find a host.

No longer having a body of her own, the Queen is able to inhabit the body of any woman who touches her card. When she possesses a woman, the host's body morphs into Jezebel's likeness and becomes nearly impossible to kill. Even if her vessel is destroyed or she is cast out from it, she can never truly die and will return to existence as a card until she finds a new host. Prolonged use of a single host body will cause it to wear out, forcing the Queen to seek a new one.

She eventually met Vampirella and became one of her deadliest foes ever since. She uses her powers to seduce men and women alike to do her bidding.

After she was defeated by Vampirella, Chaos punished his servant once more by gouging out her once-beautiful eyes. She is now forced to use magic to see.

Powers and Abilities[]

Though originally possessing no supernatural powers of her own, Jezebel was well-versed in the dark ways of the occult. After her body was destroyed and her essence trapped in the card, any woman who merely touches the card becomes possessed by her spirit, even taking up her form. However, remaining inside a host body for too long will cause it to wear out, which forces the Queen to find a new host to inhabit. She can heal rapidly from knife wounds, gun shot wounds, and even impalement, which makes it rather difficult for her to be killed. She also has vast knowledge of dark magic and the occult which she uses to summon demons and raise the dead as zombies to serve her. She can also cast illusions and use hypnosis to put her victims in a deep trance while possessing their bodies. In desperation the queen can duplicate herself by inhabiting multiple hosts. She is also proficient in mutilating her victim’s hearts with precision.

Appearance[]

Jezebel was once a beautiful, voluptuous woman with green eyes and long, flowing red hair. As a priestess of Chaos, she was almost always scantily clad. Though this original body was destroyed, any body inhabited by the Queen of Hearts transforms into its likeness.

Without a host, her only form is a playing card bearing an image of her former self.
