~ Hideo forcing Ritsuka to witness an imagined scenario based off his worst fears. |
Hideo Yamamoto (Japanese: 山本 英夫, Yamamoto Hideo) and Yurio (百合男), also known by their spell team name Bloodless, are minor antagonists in the Loveless manga series. They are a spell team duo known to engage and win battles via psychological warfare, which is done by siphoning the traumas and fears of others and forcing their victims to experience them repeatedly during combat. They also possess the rare ability to switch their roles as Fighter and Sacrifice without their opponents knowing.
They are associates of Seimei Aoyagi and have aided him in various criminal activities, especially those known to cause affliction on Septimal Moon and anyone associated with it. They participated in disabling the Seven Voices Academy's security defenses during Beloved's surprise attack on school campus, the kidnapping and imprisonment of Kio Kaidou, and the release and recovery of Nisei Akame from captivity following their battle with Loveless.
Biography[]
Bloodless' current formation consists of Hideo, who is the Sacrifice, and Yurio, a 'blank' who later became the team's Fighter following the death of Bloodless' original Fighter, Maiko. A scene during their battle with Loveless revealed that Maiko was murdered by Nisei in the past, and Yurio was later introduced to replace Maiko. Although acknowledging his new Fighter, Hideo nonetheless hold great animosity towards Yurio simply for not being his original Fighter. Hence, Hideo was heavily abusive towards him, going so far as beating him and carving the word "Bloodless" on his partner's face. Nevertheless, Yurio himself seemingly didn't mind the abuse, perhaps due to his self-proclaimed masochistic tendencies.
For undisclosed reasons, Bloodless developed a grudge against Septimal Moon, and at some point made contact with Seimei to accompany him in his criminal endeavor. Hideo, an experienced hacker, secretly assisted Beloved in their attack on the Seven Voices Academy by disabling the school's security system, allowing the Beloved unit to infiltrate campus and endangering the lives of occupants in the building. After the attack, Seimei successfully escaped while stealing a sizable amount of data, but Nisei was left behind and was apprehended by security. Bloodless later assisted Seimei in abducting Kio, a close friend of Soubi, and presided over his captivity, giving them the opportunity to force Loveless to return Nisei to them via hostage exchange.
Upon Ritsuka and Soubi's arrival, Bloodless immediately forced the Loveless duo into battle for a chance to psychologically destroy Loveless and free Nisei themselves. To this end, they subjected Ritsuka to experience several traumas by tapping into his fears and have them manifest into visions for Ritsuka to experience, such as reliving the arson attack at his old elementary school, Seimei's true nature as a killer, the fear of being alone and forgotten, and losing the few remaining memories he considered to be real. Bloodless' magical range was powerful enough for others who weren't even involved in the battle to relive their traumas as well, as is the case with Zero who, although mere spectators to the battle, were forced to remember their abandonment and their fears of being replaced by their parent figure, Nagisa Sagan.
Eventually, it was revealed that Bloodless secretly exchanged roles during their fight against Loveless, with Yurio playing the part as a Sacrifice and acting as a human shield for Hideo, who was the real Sacrifice. Soubi realized this and used his magic to reflect Yurio's attacks, forcing Hideo himself to relieve the memory of losing his real Fighter and significant other, Maiko, and the introduction of Yurio. Facing certain defeat, Hideo yielded to Loveless and reluctantly allowed them to free Kio in exchange for Nisei.
