| “ | It was dark. I remember they were the worst minutes of my life. There, alone, abandoned. It went on forever. He was already there. Those minutes gave him an advantage over me. I always... came second. | „ |
| ~ Bluey, recounting his birth and how he felt jealous of Tubby even then. |
| “ | Look at him, he's already dead. Although you can see him, he doesn't exist anymore. Isn't that true? Aren't you dead already? Actions have consequences, remember? | „ |
| ~ Bluey, as he kills Coco. |
Private Bluey, also known as Azulín in the Spanish version, and later Lieutenant Bluey/Teniente Azulín, is the main protagonist of Alberto Vazquez's 2nd full-length animated feature film Unicorn Wars.
He is an emotionally unstable teddy bear from the Love Camp who aspires to fulfill the prophecy foretold amongst the teddy bear society, hoping to become immortal and beautiful.
He was voiced by Jon Goiri.
Appearance[]
Bluey is an anthropomorphic turquoise bear with aquamarine eyes. His snout and the inside of his ears are white. After his mutilation, he hides his scarred face under a featureless white mask.
Personality[]
Bluey is a vain and arrogant bear, seeing himself as the rightful chosen one despite his numerous flaws. As the movie progresses, Bluey's sanity becomes more unhinged, to the point of killing and eating Coco over petty envy. Following his near-death in the forest, Bluey decides to simply destroy it completely as a way to wipe out the unicorns, deeming the Magical Forest as "hell", and ends up murdering his brother for trying to help the sole surviving unicorn.
Despite all of this, Bluey shows some degree of care towards his parents, showing regret in poisoning his mother and cries immensely at her funeral. Whether he retains these feelings as of present day is unclear however, as he shows indifference to his father when he's in the hospital, caring more about the bible that he took with him. This, along with him killing his brother towards the end of the movie may also indicate he has put more priority over his goal of being the chosen one over care for his own family.
Biography[]
Bluey at birth, envious of his brother, Tubby.
Bluey was born as the younger twin brother of Tubby. While Tubby was nice albeit clumsy, Bluey was mean and driven by envy how his mother always preferred Tubby compared to him. One day, Bluey discovered that his mother plotted to leave their father for another bear. In a fit of rage, Bluey poisoned his mother's lemonade, making her grow ill until her death, something that Bluey heavily regretted committing.
In the present, Bluey and Tubby join a military troop led by Drill Sergeant Ironstroke where the bears were trained to battle unicorns who had driven the bears from the forest. Bluey's arrogance makes him unliked by the other troop members, with the only one showing support to him being Tubby. This escalated into Bluey attacking Snuggly who makes fun of the makeup he uses to hide the wrinkles around his eyes, only for Coco to stop him. Bluey runs off into a field where he cries that nobody understood him. The military priest Padre appears to console him with a religious book. The book tells Bluey that when a bear drinks the blood of the last slain unicorn, they will become a "chosen one" and a godlike figure would return to the forest.
Bluey becomes determined to become the top recruit of the troop to prove himself as the chosen one. However, Coco outperforms him in all of their daily activities, impressing Ironstroke to promote him as the recruit chief, much to Bluey's chagrin. Later on, Ironstroke has his troops sent into the forest to find a missing squad under orders from Colonel Otto, Commander Fluffy, and Captain Snout. After several nights of walking, the troop come across several multi-colored centipedes, ignoring the Father's warnings and give into their hunger. The centipedes turn out to be hallucinogenic, costing the lives of the Cuddly-Wuggly twins when one mistook the other as a monster and killed him before hanging himself.
The troop then further depart into the forest, where they discover the massacred corpses of the missing squad, with the priest conducting that they were slain by the unicorns. Later on, after the unicorn filly Maria is contacted by her mother to explain her absence, the troop come across the mother and assume it was her who killed the squad. They manage to kill her, only for three more unicorns to appear, having heard her distress. The unicorns effortlessly slaughter the troop until Padre sacrifices himself by blowing them up with a grenade. Only Bluey, Tubby, and Coco are still standing, with the latter badly wounded. Remembering how much he hated Coco, Bluey chooses to finish him off before cutting off and consuming his leg, all while Tubby watches in horror before leaving in disgust.
The two brothers get into an argument leading them to beating each other up. Upon waking up, Bluey hears his mother's voice calling for him, following her hat flowing through the wind to a house. He recognizes the room inside the house as his own bedroom; he then looks outside the window to see the incident where he poisoned his mother's lemonade. This was later revealed to be a dream. The brothers later discover a blueberry plant and happily chew at it before falling asleep. Once he wakes up, Bluey spots Maria playing with her friend Laura in the distance. Bluey lunges at Maria, managing to wound her, but Laura strikes Bluey before he could finish Maria off, sending him tumbling off a cliff into the river below.
Bluey survives the fall, but is badly wounded with his left hand gone and half of his face disfigured. Another troop of bears: Corporal Pompom, Private Peludito, and Private Grimaldo find him and take him to a military hospital. While recovering, Otto, Fluffy, and Snout appear before Bluey, impressed with his courage and offer him a position as Lieutenant, using him as an icon to inspire their soldiers. With his new position, Bluey trains the army to become the strongest. Eventually, Bluey tells the military leaders that they should instead destroy the forest as a way to finally wipe out the unicorns for good, as the forest had brought him nothing but pain. When they refuse his command, Bluey initiates a coup and has his entrusted soldiers kill the leaders.
When the day for war finally comes, Bluey has his army set blaze to the forest to lure the unicorns out. The unicorns reveal themselves, escalating in a massive battle between the bears and the unicorns. During the carnage, Bluey takes control of a cannon, using it to blast a group of unicorns. Tubby, having helped Maria, comes to her aid when she is wounded by the blast from the cannonball and throws a torch at the cannon, causing it to explode from the gunpowder.
At the end of the battle, all bears and unicorns have been slain with the exception of the brothers and Maria. When Tubby confronts his brother, Bluey reveals his scarred face and tearfully admits himself as a monster and the two reconcile. Tubby hears Maria's neigh and runs to her. Seeing this enrages Bluey, and he proceeds to grab a rock and bash it on Tubby's head, killing his brother. Bluey then proceeds to finish off Maria before mauling at her flesh to become the chosen one. However, Maria's body instead turns into a blob that consumes both Tubby's corpse and Bluey before morphing into a human-like being, leading the simians to become the new rulers of the forest.
Quotes[]
| “ | Well now you are neither handsome nor loving. Instead...Instead look at me. | „ |
| ~ Bluey, insulting his brother Tubby on his looks, and gloating about his own looks. |
Trivia[]
- The scene where Bluey kills Tubby is meant to be a reference to the Biblical story of the brothers Cain and Abel, particularly in how Cain kills Abel in a similar manner as Bluey does to Tubby.
