I do wish Sonic Team would make him threatening again, just for a while.. we can have goofy Eggman back eventually (heck, probably need to) but wouldn't hurt to have his more serious, cruel side shown in a game.
I heard he got darker, I hope it doesn't cause conflicts though - as much as I like the idea I know that in games he's always been more comical and it may anger existing fans seeing him acting more like his Archie self.. if they make him as nasty as his other version it'll be hard for the Sonic Team to revert him back to comedic again.
I may check out Forces sometime though just to see how that change works out.. and heck, I'll vote Eggman because who doesn't love him? he's like Wiley from Megaman or Bowser from Mario.. an iconic nemesis who in many ways is the reason the Sonic universe began in the first place (Sonic would never of began his hero career had Eggman not surfaced and threatened the world, the basic plot of almost all Sonic games remains that way.. Sonic is usually relaxing with friends and Eggman arrives and starts the actual "plot" of the game).
I can say that this is probably Eggman at his evilest, as previously his motivations have been tragic, but now he wants to destroy everything in the entire world just so that the Eggman Empire can rule, and his motivation is his own ego.
His rivalry with Sonic isn't honorable anymore either, as Eggman just wants to kill Sonic as fast as possible in Forces.

so he's basically Ivo Robotnik from SATAM? I can appriecate that but as I mentioned, not sure if those that enjoyed the game version of Eggman will like that change.. some forget that Eggman can be a very cruel character, Sonic Team just tended to keep him "morally flexible" (though I think his honorable side probably got more highlighted after things like Sonic X, I remember that version of Eggman was extremely honorable despite his villainous status, to the point he did a speech of "it's alright to kidnap and threaten people but when you actually hurt them you've gone too far" - an ironic statement from a man who is known for turning animals (and in some version sapient beings) into robots against their will).
Well, yea. He is a like the SATAM adaption. Though he still has some smaller comedic moments here and there, though, for the most part, he's played seriously.
ah, so the earlier versions of Eggman from Sonic Archie (who roboticized an entire city of humans near his first debute and horrified everyone, he was considered as bad if not worse than the original Ivo, he would later tame down and become more like the game version, until Genesis Wave when he once again became a cruel <censored> again and tried to wipe out reality).. I may have to look into the game now.
He's not taken nearly as seriously at the beginning of the game, it's at the end where he goes totally insane and basically uses his most powerful minion ever as a pawn in order to make his death egg robot the most powerful thing in the entire universe.
probably so Sonic Team can make him more comedic again in future games, or at the least capable of "moral flexibility" - for games they likely don't want to turn Eggman as evil as he can be in other media as they will need him and Sonic to work together for plot-reasons (plus as I said before they likely don't want to alienate fans from games, who prefer a slightly less malevolent Eggman).
My favorite is probably Dr. Robotnik (mainstream video game version). He is one of those bad guys that can be a legitimate threat but at the same time he is a fun and entertaining character. Aside from Robotnik most definitely Mephiles The Dark. That guy was just a cruel and manipulative character.
I like Eggman, the Sonic Boom version of Eggman, and the AoSTH version of Robotnik because they're affably evil, humorous, and don't sound harsh.
