BobbyBot or Bobby is the main antagonist of Sid the Science Kid: The Movie. He is a sentient robotic tour guide built by Dr. Bonabodon to guide guests around the Super-Ultimate Science Museum and.

He is voiced by Jim Henson puppeteer Bruce Lanoil, who also played Darol of the Gingivitis Gang in The Adventures of Timmy Tooth.

Personality[]

In keeping with his original purpose as an artificially-intelligent tour guide and science educator, BobbyBot is initially very friendly and helpful when he is first introduced to Sid, Gabriela, Niuniu, and Yangyang by his inventor, Dr. Bonabodon, and shares a wealth of knowledge on various scientific topics from his databanks. However, all of this abruptly changes after he is struck with a bolt of artificial lightning in the electricity exhibit and Yangyang attempts to reboot his fried system; when BobbyBot comes to, he goes completely rogue and begins wreaking chaos and destruction all over the museum, taking maniacal pleasure in every act of vandalism he commits and constantly toying with the kids for his own amusement as they desperately try to recapture him.

Biography[]

BobbyBot was constructed and programmed by Dr. Bobby B. Bonabodon along with a small fleet of other helpful robots whose purpose was to run his theme park-esque Super-Ultimate Science Museum and guide its guests on tours. Being programmed with an "incredibly high degree of artificial intelligence", Dr. Bonabodon considered BobbyBot his proudest creation for his ability to entertain and educate guests completely autonomously.

When the four winners of a global youth invention competition (Sid, Gabriela, Niuniu, and Yangyang) are rewarded with a chance to tour the state-of-the-art museum before it opens to the general public later that day, Dr. Bonabodon entrusts them to test out BobbyBot's capabilities by having him show them around. The tour goes along swimmingly until the kids are taken to the "World of Electricity" exhibit; a stray bolt from the tesla coil generating the indoor lightning storm strikes BobbyBot and completely overloads him with static electricity, temporarily frying his circuitry. Although they were advised not to by Dr. Bonabodon, Niuniu and Yangyang open his control panel and attempt to fix him to the point where he can be powered on and taken back to the Doctor again.

However, when BobbyBot comes back online, his programming is completely corrupted. Babbling incoherently like a raving maniac, he suddenly takes flight and begins vandalizing every single exhibit he can find for his own twisted amusement. From reprogramming the giant mechanical bees to moo like cattle and the animatronic dinosaurs to preform showtunes to completely wrecking the simple machines pavillion with a few well-placed strikes, he wreaks such havoc upon the Super-Ultimate Science Museum that Dr. Bonabodon despairs about his own negligence and nearly opts to completely cancel the museum's opening.

However, the kids volunteer to hunt down the rogue BobbyBot while Dr. Bonabodon, their parents, and the other robots undo the damage he caused and pursue the robot via a series of riddles he leaves behind hinting at his location in the museum. Although this simply turns out to be a ruse by BobbyBot to further toy with the humans for his own amusement, they discover how much he genuinely laughs at Sid's jokes and surmise that they can exploit this. In the planetarium hub area, Sid and Gabriela lure BobbyBot out with the best humor they can offer, and the others manage to wrench open his control panel and reboot him while he is immobilized from cackling. After coming back online again, BobbyBot apologizes for the trouble and to his robot peers for dismissing them at first before seeing to the museum's successful opening with Dr. Bonabodon.

Trivia[]

  • BobbyBot is the only antagonistic character to appear in any Sid the Science Kid media.
  • Unlike most other characters in the show and movie, BobbyBot was animated with standard keyframing as opposed to motion-capture, likely to give the appearance of intentionally more robotic movements.
