~ Bobby D'Amico as he forces women to have sex with him and Noel Panko. |
Bobby D'Amico is the main antagonist of the Law & Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Star-Struck Victims". He is a famous actor who uses his charm and celebrity status to force women to have sex with him and his friend Noel Panko.
He was portrayed by Craig Bierko, who also portrayed Timothy in The Long Kiss Goodnight.
Biography[]
D'Amico is a famous, but fading, actor and owner of a nightclub, Bobby D's, where he and bartender Noel Panko regularly sexually assault and rape women in the men's room. D'Amico's M.O. is to charm a woman at the bar into going into the men's room with him to make out, while covertly signaling to Panko to follow them inside. D'Amico then tells the woman to have sex with both him and Panko. When she refuses, he holds her down and forces her to perform oral sex on him while Panko rapes her from behind.
At the beginning of the episode, D'Amico and Panko rape social media influencer Kristi Cryer, who vlogs at the hospital that she was raped.
"Star-Struck Victims"[]
The NYPD's Special Victims Unit investigates Cryer's allegations and talk to other women whom D'Amico and Panko victimized, but because the other victims do not want to press charges, there is not enough evidence to arrest either of them. Additionally, D'Amico insists that he and Panko had the women's consent, and uses his friendship with SVU Deputy Chief William Dodds to make sure the investigation goes nowhere.
Outraged, Cryer releases another vlog in which she names D'Amico and Panko as her rapists, and their other victims leave comments accusing them of rape, as well. D'Amico threatens to sue Cryer, and Assistant District Attorney Rafael Barba says that it is not worth it to pursue the case, as D'Amico would likely convince a jury that Cryer lied about the rape to increase her social media presence.
Determined to arrest D'Amico and Panko, SVU Detective Amanda Rollins goes undercover to D'Amico's club - without authorization from her Lieutenant, Olivia Benson - and flirts with D'Amico. Sure enough, D'Amico signals Panko to follow him and Rollins into the bathroom, and holds her down as he and Panko begin to assault her. Rollins kicks Panko in the groin and subdues D'Amico before arresting them both. However, SVU Sergeant Mike Dodds, Chief Dodds' son, tells her to let them go because she went undercover without department authorization, which makes her investigation entrapment and, thus, illegal.
While angry at Rollins for going behind her back, Benson manages to convince Barba to charge D'Amico and Panko with raping Cryer. During the trial, D'Amico and Panko's lawyer, John Buchanan, aggressively cross-examines Cryer, using her inconsistent account of the rape and the fact that her accusation vlog gained over 400,000 views to accuse her of lying about the rape to become famous. He then tells the trial judge that he will not call any witnesses, which deprives Barba of the opportunity to call any other witnesses of his own. Buchanan's strategy works, and the jury acquits D'Amico and Panko.
They finally get their comeuppance, however, when Sergeant Dodds, who has never liked D'Amico and is convinced of his guilt, anonymously releases the video of D'Amico and Panko assaulting Rollins to the press. D'Amico's career is ruined, while Panko is fired and, with a national reputation as a rapist, becomes virtually unemployable.
