Bobby Smiles is a major antagonist in the comic book Tintin in America and it's 1991 TV adaptation, serving as the secondary antagonist throughout much of the story, however, after his capture and arrest, his role was then given to Bugsy Kidnap.
He is the American governor of a rival gang against Al Capone. He tried to bribe Tintin in order for him to join his rival gang, but he refuses, leading him to combat with Tintin during a large portion of the story, until he is finally arrested.

Personality[]
Smiles is a corrupt governor who bribes people to join his rival gang in order to overthrow Capone, but when they refuse, he tries to kill them by any means possible, like intoxicating them with a toxic gas smoke.
Biography[]
First encounter[]
Bobby Smiles is first encountered by Tintin after he arrested a criminal who was hiding inside his appartement, disguised as the "Chief of Police" of Chicago. He then tries to bribe Tintin to join his rival gang, but Tintin refuses and holds him at gun point, only for Smiles to press a hidden button under his desk, making Tintin fall into a room where he is then intoxicated by a soporific gas smoke. However, the men who intoxicated him used the wrong gas, as any contact with water would make Tintin wake up, which is confirmed when Tintin is thrown into the water and later tricks the two men by pretending to be armed, dropping their weapons. Tintin then calls the police by shooting in the air, who arrests the two criminals.
Second encounter[]
Bobby Smiles is later encountered again as he is chased by Tintin to the village of Redskin City, where he is hiding. He eventually gets away by fooling the Blackfoot Indian Tribe to think Tintin is "a paleface and a danger to their tribe", which successfully makes Tintin captured by the tribe, but he manages to escape due to the tribe fighting each other after Tintin threw balls of resin at the chief, thinking it was shot by a slingshot and punched the brother of another indian, who knocked him out in retaliation. Bobby then notices that Tintin has knocked out all of the tribe (though it was just due to them fighting each other) and escaped. Tintin then fell from a cliff, presumably dead, which stunned Smiles due to the immense height of the cliff Tintin has falled down into. Believed that Tintin is dead, he goes on to shoot Snowy down the cliff as well. Little does he know, however, is that Tintin survived by grabbing into a tree branch and dropped into a small part of land with a small cave next to it. As Smiles cooks to rest after getting rid of Tintin, he notices that the rock he was sitting on is shaking and Tintin then came out from under the rock, which scared Smiles, thinking he was a ghost. He then convinces the Blackfoot tribe to chase Tintin, who apparently discovered their cave. As Tintin escaped into a hole, the tribe blocked the hole with a large rock, trapping Tintin inside. However, as he goes into a tunnel, he discovers oil, which frees him from the hole he was trapped in.
Smiles then later captured Tintin and binded him on the train tracks so he would be ran over by the train. However, Tintin escapes once more. Later on, he spots Tintin coming towards the cabin he was hiding in. He causes a rock slide by blowing up one of the rocks with a detonator, but this fails as Tintin took cover. Once Tintin reached the cabin, he attempts to knock Tintin out with a bottle, only for it to be shot by Tintin, who then captures Smiles and hands him over to the police, where he is arrested.
