Bomb-Burst is a minor antagonist in Generation One of the Transformers franchise. He was based on a figure in the 1988 toyline.
Biography[]
Bomb-Burst was a member of Scorponok's Decepticon crew who was first seen in Marvel US Issue #40. He and five others underwent the Pretender process, being equipped with shells that made them resemble giant monsters. Scorponok quickly despatched them to investigate a computer hack originating from Alternate Reality Inc but this turned out to be a trap set by the new Autobot Pretenders, who were being directed by the recorded personality of Optimus Prime, and the Decepticons were driven off.
In the UK annual story "The Chain Gang", Bomb-Burst, along with Skullgrin and Iguanus, launched a raid on an oil rig, aiming to steal the fuel. The arrival of Autobot Pretenders Cloudburst, Landmine and Splashdown saw a fight break out in which a human plane was damaged. Cloudburst convinced Bomb-Burst to help him bring the plane down safely so it wouldn't crash into the rig and cause an explosion that would kill them all, but by the time he had done so, his two colleagues had been defeated and he was forced to surrender.
Despite this, Bomb-Burst was back with Scorponok's troops in Issue #49 during the Underbase Saga, where Starscream manipulated them into fighting Ratbat's Earth Decepticons, with Bomb-Burst managing to take down both Soundwave and Ratbat himself. After the two groups had teamed up with the Autobots to battle the Underbase-powered Starscream, Bomb-Burst and the other Pretenders were part of a team led by Grimlock and Scorponok who defended Tokyo. Deployed alongside the Predacons, their main contribution was to kill Grimlock with friendly fire, although they were among the few to survive the attack after their shells protected them.
In Issue #54, Bomb-Burst was part of Scorponok's plan to steal the power of an electrical storm that would destroy a large part of New York, being sent with Bugly to fly Iguanus to safety after he had placed an electrostator on top of the Empire State Building. However, they arrived just in time to see the electrostator be knocked clear by Autobot Micromaster Roadhandler, and Iguanus be struck by the full force of the storm trying to retrieve it, causing them to pull out.
Bomb-Burst continued to appear among Scorponok's forces, accompanying him to the MacDill Air Force Base to battle Optimus Prime in Issue #57, accepting the Autobots' surrender in Issue #71 and being transported to Cybertron prior to the attack by Unicron in Issue #74. He made his final appearance during the battle with Unicron in Issue #75, where he and Hardhead were moving a cannon into position when Unicron stepped on and killed them both.
