The Bone Dragons are supporting antagonist from Heroes of Might and Magic II, Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Shadow of Death and minor antagonist from Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Restoration of Erathia, Heroes of Might and Magic III: Armageddon’s Blade, Playing with Fire campaign and Heroes of Might and Magic IV. These monsters are the skeletons of dead dragons that controled necromancers or the forces of darkness to destroy and serve.

History[]

Bone dragons were practically as old as necromancy itself, almost as early as the first necromancers used these monsters. The immortal hero, Tarnum, long ago, when the necromancers wanted to destroy the World Tree on the orders of the insane ancestor, Vorr, they also used bone dragons against their enemies, not a little, but in the end they did not succeed. After that, these undead monsters were not resurrected en masse for a long time, until the Second War of Enrothian Succession. Archibald Ironfist and the necromancers, along with the other undead creatures, began resurrecting these undead dragons to gain an advantage over their enemies as soon as possible. They proved to be very effective during the war, but other sufficiently powerful monsters effectively fought them and eventually the necromancers and Archibald were defeated. After that, they were used countless times by the necromancers, Sandro in his campaign for world domination, during the invasion of Erathia, and Lord Haart's necromancer cult during the destruction of the Marshes of Tatalia. Again, these monsters were formidable, effective and unpleasant opponents, but were usually defeated by the heroes of the good side in the end.

In the world of Axeoth, bone dragons were used by almost all necromantic kingdoms, territories, and individuals, but they changed these monsters a bit. The holes in the skull where the eyes were were glowing red, probably the effect of the dark force, which had the added effect of scaring their enemies when the undead monster attacked.

Powers and abilities[]

Strenghts[]

Skeleton dragons were a special group of dragons based on their characteristics. Because they were undead, certain spells didn't affect them at all, such as molar decreasing spells, or only affected the living, such as diseases. Like other dragons, they could fly, but they were more of a raw melee creature. Since they could not breathe fire, their claws and teeth were their main weapons, with which they could easily kill smaller troops. Since they were only bones, they were much better protected against certain weapons, especially ranged weapons, and compared to some dragon species, they were much more durable and stronger. Another feature was that their presence unsettled and even terrified most of their enemies, making them more uncertain when fighting these undead monsters.

Weaknesses[]

Despite it many strengths, the bone dragon was not invincible, and even had many weaknesses. First, unlike many dragons, these undead monsters were not immune to magic at all, so extremely powerful and destructive mages, sorcerers and wizards were able to destroy them easily or quickly. Since they could not breathe fire, they could not attack multiple opponents at once, and the strongest creatures in Enroth and Axeoth fought against them effectively. Another weakness was that certain spells and objects, such as holy waters or spells concocted against the undead, were particularly effective against them.
