Synopsis

Bonnie's my name, I'm hoppin' along, floppy ears and a cotton tail!
My guitar is blazin', this rabbit's "Hare"-raisin'! Just listen to me wail!
~ Bonnie in Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Theme Song (unused from Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted.)
What is this new prison? Is it me trapped, or is it you? Perhaps it's us, both.
~ Withered Bonnie's death quote from Ultimate Custom Night.

Bonnie the Rabbit, better known as Bonnie the Bunny, is a major antagonist in the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise.

Like his fellow animatronics Freddy Fazbear and Chica the Chicken (and formerly Foxy the Pirate), Bonnie is a friendly child entertainer during the day housed at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, but kills any human he sees during the night - especially Mike Schmidt, the enigmatic protagonist. In reality, he's possessed by the restless soul of a child named Jeremy.

Spring Bonnie, his springlock counterpart, was the co-star of the original Fredbear's Family Diner, the suit that William Afton used to kill five children with and the one in which he met his first death in, subsequently possessing it similar to his victims. Bonnie/Jeremy's ultimate goal is to get revenge on Afton by killing him.

Although he never spoke in the series, he is voiced by Kellen Goff in the Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Theme Song, which is an unused track from Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted. In Ultimate Custom Night, his Withered form was voiced by Hans Yunda.

Appearance[]

Normal[]

Bonnie is a tall animatronic who looks like an anthropomorphic, quite muscular blue rabbit, with two long ears, albeit not sufficiently proportioned to his size. Because of the lighting on the stage, he may seem purple, but in fact he is blue, because in normal lighting he is this color.

The color from his muzzle, stomach, and insides of his ears is a grayish color. He sports articulated ears that are capable of bending backwards and forwards (similar to several other animatronics' ears) and wears a red bow tie, which is partially obstructed by his chin. Onstage, he carries a dark red guitar. Unlike the other characters, he has round teeth and lacks eyebrows.

Excluding his head, most of Bonnie's body appears identical to Freddy's, apart from the latter's color. This version of Bonnie, like most of the animatronics in the first game (except for Foxy), has no visible teeth on his upper jaw.

In Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted, Bonnie's model remains mostly the same, but he is primarily blue with the color of his muzzle, stomach and insides of his ears is now white, and his guitar sports a different look. This Bonnie model also seems to have technology similar to Fun time animatronics with parts that pop open and close automatically at the push of two buttons. This might also be Bonnie before he had a paint job due to being blue and white similar to Toy Bonnie unlike the purple and grey Bonnie with blue blotches from Five Nights at Freddy’s.

Withered[]

In the second game, Bonnie's appearance is much more frightening, as his face has been scooped out, and his two red endoskeleton eyes peering out of the depression where his face used to be.

He has two buttons added to his chest and is also the most damaged of all the older animatronics. His face has been gutted while his lower jaw remains, featuring more teeth than he possesses in the previous game as well as glowing red irises.

His left arm is missing entirely, with a mass of wires in its place. His suit has become tattered, particularly around the legs, and a few loose wires poke out of his body.

The covering on his right hand and his entire left arm has come off, revealing his endoskeleton and wires. He also seems to have a bigger stomach than before, as it looks more rounded and bigger than his upper body.

His chin also doesn't squash his bow tie now. It is explained that the management tried to have Bonnie and the old animatronics retrofit but this was scrapped in favor for the newer, toy models.

Personality[]

During the day, Bonnie appears as a friendly, harmless, joyful, nice, and sympathetic robot, who never harm children and always take care of them, often playing guitar along Freddy and the rest of the gang to distract customers of the restaurant; albeit his appearance is somewhat disturbing, and his behavior rather malevolent upon confronted to adults.

Once he is confronted to the night guard, however, Bonnie turns into a cunning, malicious, merciless, evil-minded, rather impatient murderous stalker, obsessed by the idea of stuffing the night guard into a spare animatronic suit for some dark reasons (presumably as revenge of the spirit within him).

Bonnie is by far the most active, being usually the first one to leave the stage, but also the least dangerous of the original five animatronics. If he waits outside the door, it isn't for very long, although even if he is far from the office, he can travel there surprisingly quickly. Shutting the door on him wears him out quickly into leaving, as opposed to the persistent Chica.

One of his dirtiest tactics is to hide in the storage closet, and bound to the office at an incredible speed, catching Mike off-guard.

He is very unpredictable and possibly impatient as he twitches constantly on Night 3, indicating he might be getting frustrated. Bonnie is, in fact, possessed by the soul of one of the children killed by William Afton, which explains his temperamental and evil behavior.

In spite of what one may think Bonnie, alongside the rest of the animatronics, has a shred of humanity and sympathy left, even after decades of coming to loathe adults. In The Week Before, after Ralph helps him by reattaching his head, Bonnie spares him when he didn't have enough power to close both doors at the same time. Later down the line, if Ralph's last will is to call Coppelia instead of leaving a recorded message to his successor, every single animatronic will stop attacking to let him speak to her one last time.

Quotes[]

You blinked.
~ Withered Bonnie after killing the player in Ultimate Custom Night.
Time to face the consequences of your failure.
~ Withered Bonnie.
Might as well face the facts you were always destined to fail.
~ Withered Bonnie.
I may be missing my face, but even I could see you stalk.
~ Withered Bonnie.

Trivia[]

  • On Nights 1 to 3, Bonnie is more active than the other animatronics, but on Nights 4, 5, 6, and higher difficulty settings of Night 7, Chica becomes more active than him.
  • In the trailer, Bonnie is showing running down the hallway. He was stripped of this ability in the final game, with Foxy instead being the only one who is seen running.
  • In the trailer, Bonnie is shown to remove his mask, revealing his endoskeleton. However, this never happens in the game.
  • According to Scott Cawthon, Bonnie is the animatronic he finds scariest, as he had several nightmares about him while developing the game.
    • Bonnie was also Scott Cawthon's favorite animatronic. It seems to be the reason why Scott made Springtrap.
  • Bonnie is the only animatronic without eyebrows. (Until Mangle in Five Nights at Freddy's 2).
  • Bonnie makes an unusual Human-like groaning while approaching the Office. This also implies that the animatronics are haunted by the dead child victims of William Afton.
  • On extremely rare occasions, after the Game Over screen, or when starting up the game, a full screen image of the eyeless Bonnie hallucinations sometimes appears. The image goes off when white pupils begin to appear.
  • If one believes the theory that the child possessing Freddy Fazbear is a girl, then the child possessing Bonnie would be limited to being one the remaining two boys and one girl, meaning there is a 2/3 possibility that Bonnie is possessed by a male child rather than a female.
  • Scott Cawthon has confirmed that Bonnie (the animatronic itself) is, in fact, male. Fans originally theorized that he was female, due to Bonnie being a feminine sounding name. Scott later disproved this with an online post.
  • In the files for Special Delivery, one of the unused Faz-Facts states that Bonnie's parts were eventually used for Rockstar Bonnie, it is unknown if this is canon now that the files are unused.
  • On Night 7, if the A.I. is set to 0/0/0/0, Bonnie will still move which proves that he is more active than the other characters. Chica also moves rarely.
  • At the end of Night 6 of Five Nights at Freddy's 2, Withered Bonnie, along with the other withered animatronics, are kept for the first game restaurant.
  • Bonnie is the only original animatronic not to have a Phantom counterpart.
  • Since the reveal of the final screen of the Lorekeeper ending in Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Simulator, that the child (based on the position of Bonnie's head in the Good Ending of FNaF 3) possessing Bonnie is named Jeremy.
    • In the book series however, Bonnie is instead be possessed by a little girl named Cassidy as Jeremy doesn’t exist in the book series.
  • Some fans think that Jeremy is a brother of Susie, child inside Chica, due of Bonnie's and Chica's similar game mechanics.
  • Bonnie’s fur is actually blue. It appears purple due to the lighting in the dark rooms.
  • The lore of Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach indicates there was a Glamrock version of Bonnie who was once part of the band, and it is highly implied that he was killed by Montgomery Gator, who would take his place as the bassist. It is also implied that he had a close friendship with Glamrock Freddy, possibly of a romantic nature. In the Ruin DLC, there is poster of Freddy in Bonnie's now-abandoned green room where the words, "You and me forever & ever! Love, Freddy" are written on it. Pictures of Glamrock Bonnie also show he has a blue earring that matches a red one worn by Freddy.
