Boomer Kuwanger, also known as Boomerang Kuwanger, is one of the eight Maverick bosses in the original Mega Man X game.
He was voiced by Hisashi Izumi in the Japanese version, and by Ethan Cole in the English version.
Description[]
Boomer Kuwanger is a red anthropomorphic robot stag beetle. He has only the creature's rear legs, with the middle pair missing outright and the front pair being substituted for a pair of arms ending in pentadactyl hands sprouting from his shoulders, and the creature's mandibles have been converted into horns on top of his head. Two red, vestigial wings appear on his back. His original design portrayed him with white gloves and curved horns, but in Rockman Irregular Hunter X, his gloves are yellow with black fingers, which become blue in the game itself, and his horns look more angular.
His Weapon[]
Boomer Kuwanger wields Boomerang Cutters, which X gets his hands on when Boomer is beaten. Boomerang Cutters have a function that combines Rolling Cutters from the original Rockman with Ring Boomerangs from Rockman X4, picking up items for their user should they pass by said items. Additionally, if the wielder whiffs, the Boomerang Cutter is not considered to be used, provided it can return to its thrower before the thrower traps it in an offscreen section.
Biography[]
Kuwanger was a Maverick Hunter from 17th Elite Unit directly under Sigma, much like his brother Gravity Beetle. He was a completely logical Reploid, with no concept of right and wrong, specializing in collecting and analyzing combat data. When Sigma began his rebellion, Kuwanger deduced that joining him would be the best course of action, taking control of a tower and turning it into his personal fortress. When confronted by his former friend, X, Kuwanger decides to test X's potential and fights him; however, X prevails and defeats him, getting his hands on the mechanical stag beetle's Boomerang Cutters.
Boomer Kuwanger quickly teleports around the small arena, eventually dashing in an attempt to grab the player with his pincers or throwing his Boomerang Cutter from a distance. His weakness is the Homing Torpedo, which follows his movement even when he vanishes.
