Borealis, also known as Borealis the Freezing Fog, is a minor antagonist and an optional boss in the 2022 video game Elden Ring. It is an ice dragon who possesses ice-based powers and abilities as well as ice breath.
Biography[]
Borealis and his kind used to rule over the Mountaintops as lords but were stripped of their power after they were chased away by the Fire Giants, who then carve their civilization and made the Mountaintops their home.
Elden Ring[]
Borealis can be found in the Frozen lake north-east of the Mountaintops. When the player encounters Borealis, the ice dragon will appear from a thick white fog in the middle of a blizzard. Upon its defeat, Borealis will drop a dragon heart. In addition, this also allows the player to obtain the spell Borealis' Mist at the altar of the Cathedral of Dragon Communion for two dragon hearts.
Powers & Abilities[]
Due to being an ice dragon, Borealis' powers have a complete connection to the ice element. Whenever Borealis would attack and inflict damage on the player, it depends on what kind of attack it is, it would inflicted frostbite on the player. Like all dragons, Borealis can fly. While it flies around, the ice dragon can unleash its icy breath which can flow along the ground. If players are caught in the attack, they will be inflicted with damage and frostbite.

- Borealis seems to get his name from Boreas, the Greek God of the North Wind. In addition, both of them are associated with winter.
