Avi: Why do they call him the bullet dodger?
Tony: Because he dodges bullets, Avi.
~ Avi Denovitz and Bullet-Tooth Tony describing Boris.

Boris Yurinov, also known as Boris the Blade, Boris the Bullet Dodger and Boris the Butcher, is the secondary antagonist of the 2000 film Snatch.

He is a former KGB agent turned arms dealer responsible for the theft of an 86-carat diamond from professional thief Franky Four-Fingers, the brother of the Russian and the archenemy of Cousin Avi. He is also responsible for kicking off Sol and Vinny's storyline by hiring them to steal the diamond from Franky, kicking off their hunt for the stone.

He was portrayed by Rade Šerbedžija, who also played Dmitri Gredenko in 24, Murad Hoxha in Taken 2, Andrei Strasser in Mighty Joe Young, Mikhaylo Sczerbiak in Shooter and Captain William Blake in The Fog.

Biography[]

Boris is first introduced when Tommy buys an extremely faulty and useless gun from him for protection. Turkish reveals that Boris is known as "the bullet dodger" and "the blade" because it's seemingly impossible to kill him. However, Boris's first plot-relevant appearence is after Franky Four-Fingers steals the diamond during a heist in Antwerp, with the Russian suggesting that Franky purchase a firearm from his brother Boris with which to protect himself. The Russian then calls up Boris and advises him to steal the diamond from Franky. To that end, Boris tells Franky that he can have the gun for free if he places a bet at Brick Top's bookies on his behalf. Unknown to Franky, Boris hires small-time crooks Sol and Vinny to rob the bookies and steal the diamond from Franky.

Although Sol and Vinny are completely incapable of robbing the bookies (even losing their gun in the process), they successfully abduct Franky and take him to their pawn shop, where Boris is waiting. However, Boris is not happy to discover that they kidnapped Franky instead of just stealing the diamond, and coldly executes Franky on the spot. He is even more displeased when he realises that he just killed the only man capable of opening the case with the diamond in it, or when Sol and Vinny demand to split the profit from the diamond because they didn't get any money from the bookies. He offers both of them £10,000 pounds, cuts off Franky's arm and then leaves with the case, leaving them to deal with the body.

Cousin Avi, the crooked jeweller who Franky intended to sell the diamond to, hires bounty hunter Bullet-Tooth Tony to locate the diamond. The trail leads back to Boris, who is kidnapped by Tony and Avi when he tries to sell them the diamond. However, Turkish and Tommy are on the way to see Boris in order to confront him about the faulty gun he sold them, and accidentally cause Avi to crash the car, allowing Boris to escape in the confusion. Sol and Vinny run him over with their car seconds later.

Despite his injuries, Boris is seemingly only annoyed at his accident (thus proving that he really is as hard to kill as his moniker suggests) and goes back to his house, punching Tommy in the balls when Tommy confronts him. He then collects an assault rifle from his stash and heads out to get Tony. On arriving at the pub where Tony is drinking, Boris confronts Avi only to be confronted by Sol and Vinny. Tony shouts a warning, causing Avi and Sol to dive for cover, before shooting through the wall and injuring Boris. Sol and Vinny steal the diamond and escape. Tony shoots at Boris twice more, only for Boris to hurl abuse at him (it's unclear whether Boris dodges the bullets, as his name would suggest, or simply survives the shot). Tony tells him not to take the piss before shooting him repeatedly, finally killing the Bullet Dodger.
