~ Borov in Clear Sky |
Borov (Russian: Боров) is the secondary antagonist of the Ukrainian FPS Survival Horror video game S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl and a minor character of its prequel S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky
Borov is the second Bandit kingpin who was a barman in the first leader's gang
Personality[]
In Clear Sky, Borov as a barman was a friendly, welcoming and a charismatic person, who was willing to give Scar a advice or sell information, but, on the inside, Borov, since he was a child, wanted to be a leader. His fellow bandits even named him a "aristocrat wannabe". Borov deeply disliked the Bandits' kingpin, Yoga for his tyrannical and egotistical nature. He believed that by murdering stalkers, Yoga robs the "brothers" from their main source of money, stalkers themselves.
In Shadow Of Chernobyl, despite not having any unique interactions, Borov was shown to be a much more violent, sociopathic and opportunistic. When the Duty members came to assassinated him, they got ambushed and instead of killing all of them, Borov used this opportunity to ask for money from Duty in exchange for the hostages. Bullet, the leader of the squad, described him as a "dirtbag that need to be studied". He is also a hypocrite, since he was hating Yoga for being incompetent and needlessly cruel, but later became just like him, if not worse, since Yoga's Gang at least were disciplined.
Appearance[]
In 2011, Borov was a thin man with most likely toned body wearing a regular black trench coat with a turtle-neck inner jacket and black pants, which is common among Bandits. In 2012, Borov became heavily obese, even compared to other characters in the game. However, he still wears his black trench coat and turtle-neck inner jacket, but with a different colored pants, green.
Biography[]
Little is known about Borov's life before the events of the series. It is known that he wanted to be a leader since his childhood and thought of himself as a natural born leader.
In 2011 was a barman at Bar «Super Khavchik» and one of the many subordinates of Yoga. However, he didn't like him. Yoga was greedy, egoistical, ruthless and didn't care about his people. Yoga's carelessness had consequences and eventually Borov replaced Yoga and the Bar was destroyed. It's unknown though, if he usurped the leadership and killed Yoga or he just left. Borov took the remains of the Yoga's Gang and left to the Dark Valley.
The Bandits' inner policy became much softer and gave them more freedom, unlike Yoga's strict and tyrannical rule.
Shortly enough at Dark Valley, Borov discovered the X-18 laboratory. He was eager to enter the laboratory, but it was locked on two electronic keys, so the kingpin couldn't enter it. At some point, he acquired the first electronic key out of the two. After some time, a group of Duty members were send to kill Borov, but they failed and only the leader escaped. Upon entering the Bandits' base Mechenyj, that already possessed the other part of the electric key given by the Barkeeper. He stormed Borov's office, killed him and stole his electronic key
Powers & Skills[]
- High Intelligence: In Clear Sky, Borov used his position as a barman to analyze everything he was hearing from the fellow Bandits, information about the current situation in the Zone or where stashes of valuable items are laying, even those stashes that were needed to Limpid for his upgrades. According to one of the stashes at the Dark Valley he also somehow knew about the Military's clean-up that is going to happen, shown, that despite the changes he came through from Clear Sky to Shadow Of Chernobyl, he didn't lose his intelligence.
- Leadership: Borov is the second Bandit kingpin after Yoga. Despite that Borov was described as a "natural-born leader" by himself, not much is known about his rule or about his inner policy, besides the fact that he is less tyrannical and strict then Yoga.
- Charisma: During his days as a bartender, many of the Bandits sympathize Borov and were sure that he would eventually overthrow Yoga.
- Trading Skills: As a bartender, Borov was not only pouring vodka for the local thugs but also was selling food, medicine and information and was highly appreciated by everyone
Trivia[]
- In the Dark Valley, the player can find a stash that refes to Borov named "Borov's Stash". The stash can be received from a experienced bandit
- Borov's office and the Bandits' base contains 20 unique items that were left by mistake by the developers:
- 17 copies of "vodka". 15 in the base itself and 2 in Borov's office. They are unique instances of the in-game Ukrainian vodka brand "Cossacks Vodka".
- 3 copies of "bread". All three near Borov's office. They are unique instances of the regular bread that can be found anywhere in the Zone.
- In the game files there's also "kolbasa", a unique instance of sausage, but it cannot be found in-game nor be placed in the inventory.
- The items "vodka" and "bread" are a trace of an early animation system of food consumption by NPCs, when items that were hold by NPCs aren't the same as objects holden by the player, but a identical copy. However in the release version, the items hold by NPCs and the player are the same, but due to develops' mistake the copies were left in the game
