Boss Hamata is a major antagonist in the first season of the Netflix animated series Blue Eye Samurai. He was the powerful and sadistic leader of a criminal group called the Thousand Claws. From his position of power, he controlled everything in his town, killing anyone who went against him. He was infamous for taking great enjoyment in raping delicate looking women. He is also the archenemy of Madame Kaji.
He was voiced by Clyde Kusatsu.
Biography[]
It's unknown how or where the Thousand Claws clan first formed or how Hamata came to arise to his state of power, but what is known about him is that he runs a gambling house near Madame Kaji's brothel and is widely feared within the local village for his and his clan's reputation. Ruling the village with an iron fist and known for his grotesque means of violently offing his patrons and enemies alike, Hamata would often demand more from his clients and those near his ward, and as Madame Kaji put it, whatever they've made, built, or had eventually becomes something only Hamata believe is he's to claim. He would also asked for more from Madame Kaji, likely to be sexual favors whenever the amount of money wasn't enough. At times, whoever came around challenging Hamata and the Thousand Claws are met with brutal deaths and setting their shops or inns on fire, likely killing the loved ones of said victims under cruel means.
Six months ago, Hamata took interest in a young deaf and mute girl named Kinuyo, who was under the care of Madame Kaji who treated her nothing more than a daughter, and viciously took her away from the latter to become his personal concubine and sex slave. For the last following months set, Kinuyo would suffer being physically and sexually abused under the hands of Hamata and oftentimes sent her away to have perform prostitution for his other patrons, to which Kinuyo would be seen covered in bruises that Hamata had a moxa doctor treat her wounds and sores each dawn, only to abuse her once more until she breaks and left broken. It was also made clear that knowing Kaji's love for Kinuyo, should any form of retribution against him or take Kinuyo back will be met with Kaji and her prostitutes in her brothel being brutally slaughtered at his men's hands.
When Mizu came to meet Madame Kaji in regards to Abijah Fowler's whereabouts, she initially tasks her first with killing Kinuyo as an act of mercy and to ensure it looks like an accident to end her suffering in exchange of entering Fowler's castle. On the night Kinuyo was treated and put to sleep, Mizu manages to sneak into his gambling inn and infiltrate without any of his guards noticing, which she stealthily kills Hamata's top bodyguard with a poisonous dart and soon made contact with Kinuyo, telling her in sign that she is with Madame Kaji, to which after managing to avoid alerting the guards, Mizu snaps her neck and feigns the whole scene to make it look like the two had a fight and the guard strangled her to death. Unfortunately, a young boy who worked for Hamata spotted Mizu after making it out the inn, threateningly telling him to head to the gates to alert the watchmen that a fight had occurred.
Unfortunately, things didn't go as planned as instead of telling Hamata what was supposed to happened, the boy told him what actually happened. Enraged, Boss Hamata storms with his Thousand Claws outside Madame Kaji's brothel holding a drunk man hostage, having the boy point out at Mizu to confirm being Kinuyo's killer and slits the man's throat with his claw-like gauntlets. In a fit of spite, he orders his men to kill every last one of the prostitutes and Kaji in her brothel, including Mizu and Ringo as they began attacking. Evacuating the others inside elsewhere in the brothel's lower grounds, Mizu begins slaughtering a majority of whatever remains of the Thousand Claws' warriors one by one once the broke inside, but at the same time, face their more challenging and competent warriors despite the odds. After overcoming them and finishing them off once the fight took outside, using her metal braces to form her blade into a staff, Mizu enters his inn where a cowering Hamata tries flee from her.
Soon as he was brought outside, the cowardly Hamata finally meets his fated end at the hands of Madame Kaji and her prostitutes, using one of the very claw-like gauntlets to brutally impale and beat him down to death, fully avenging Kinuyo.
Personality[]
Boss Hamata was very sadistic and greedy, relishing his power and taking great pleasure in destroying anyone who stood against him. His first reaction to most situations was extreme violence against anyone he considered his enemy. Additionally, he took pleasure out of raping young women not simply out of lust, but out of a desire to break them. He's also a coward, best shown trying to back away from Madame Kaji and her associates from getting back at him.
