Hi. This is Thesecret1070. I am an admin of this site. Edit as much as you wish, but one little thing... If you are going to edit a lot, then make yourself a user and login. Other than that, enjoy Villains Wiki!!!
The Botani are a race of sentient plant-like beings native to Draenor in World of Warcraft universe. They are deeply connected to the Evergrowth, a vast, sentient network of plant life that seeks to dominate all organic matter. The Botani view non-plant species as obstacles or raw material to be absorbed into their ecosystem. Ruthless and zealous in their mission, they wield powerful druidic magic to bend nature to their will, creating monstrous creatures like the Genesaur to enforce their will.
The Botani trace their origins to ancient Draenor, where they evolved alongside other plant-based life forms. Their civilization grew around their devotion to the Evergrowth, a force they see as the ultimate state of existence. The Evergrowth's purpose is to spread endlessly, transforming all matter into plant life.
For centuries, the Botani flourished, gradually converting large portions of Draenor’s ecosystems into dense jungles filled with monstrous plant creatures. Their most powerful creations, the Genesaur, acted as both guardians and enforcers of the Evergrowth.
However, they faced resistance from the Breaker races—massive, stone-skinned beings such as the Magnaron, Gronn, and Ogron, who sought to crush the Evergrowth. This conflict, known as the Breaker-Botani War, defined much of Draenor’s ancient history. The Botani struggled against these behemoths but managed to hold their own due to their regenerative abilities and swarm tactics.
Conflict with the Orcs[]
As the Orcs expanded across Draenor, they inevitably clashed with the Botani, especially in Gorgrond, the heart of Botani territory. Orcs, unlike the Breakers, did not seek to eradicate the Evergrowth but instead tried to control it. However, the Botani saw them as intruders and responded with violence.
The Laughing Skull clan, known for their savagery, fought an especially brutal war against the Botani, using fire and brute force to push back their spread. The Botani retaliated by infesting Orc corpses with spores, turning them into unwilling plant-thralls.
Rise of the Iron Horde and Adventurers’ Intervention[]
During the events of Warlords of Draenor, the Iron Horde’s industrial expansion threatened the Evergrowth, leading to intensified resistance from the Botani. They unleashed their full power, attempting to overrun the region and reclaim Gorgrond.
However, adventurers allied with either the Iron Horde or the forces of Azeroth launched multiple assaults against the Botani, culminating in the defeat of their strongest Genesaur and the destruction of many of their hives. Though this was a significant setback, remnants of the Botani survived, vowing to one day reclaim their dominion.
Incursion into Azeroth[]
Though the Botani were largely confined to Draenor, some of their spores and seeds were transported to Azeroth, either through unwitting travelers or deliberate experiments by rogue druids. This has led to isolated outbreaks of Evergrowth corruption, suggesting that the Botani’s influence could still spread beyond their homeworld.
Culture & Beliefs[]
The Evergrowth as a Religion[]
The Botani are religious zealots, believing that the Evergrowth is not just a force of nature but a divine entity that must consume all other forms of life. They see themselves as its chosen prophets, tasked with bringing the universe into alignment with plant-based supremacy.
In their eyes, other species—whether animal, humanoid, or even sentient plants that resist the Evergrowth—are defective and must either be assimilated or destroyed. This fanatical devotion makes them relentless in their expansion efforts.
Hierarchy and Leadership[]
Botani society operates in a hive-like structure, with no centralized government but instead a loose hierarchy based on their connection to the Evergrowth:
Genesaur: Ancient, towering plant-beasts that act as spiritual leaders and ultimate enforcers of the Botani's will.
Elder Botani: More experienced Botani who guide their kind in matters of strategy and growth.
Druids of the Evergrowth: Botani mystics who cultivate new plant-monstrosities and spread their influence.
Regular Botani: The foot soldiers of the Evergrowth, tending to the land and fighting enemies.
Infested Thralls: Creatures (or even fallen enemies) that have been reanimated and turned into botanical slaves.
Transformation and Biological Warfare[]
Unlike traditional races, the Botani do not reproduce in a conventional sense. Instead, they convert other life forms into their own kind through a mixture of spores, parasitic growths, and genetic manipulation. This process is not voluntary, making them one of the most insidious biological threats in World of Warcraft.
They are also known to mutate their own kind, creating specialized Botani for different roles, such as:
Tank-like warriors with reinforced bark armor.
Spore-spewing infectors who spread corruption.
Rapid-growing vine manipulators who reshape the battlefield.
Hatred of Fire and Metal[]
Due to their plant-like nature, the Botani fear fire and metal-based technology, seeing it as an unnatural abomination that disrupts the Evergrowth. This is why they hold deep resentment toward the Iron Horde and later the forces of Azeroth, whose machines and flame-based weaponry devastate their ranks.
However, they have tried to adapt, using enchanted vines and living weapons to counteract these weaknesses. Some even theorize that if the Botani were to harness Azeroth’s druidic magic, they could become an even greater threat than before.
Abilities & Tactics[]
The Botani’s strength lies in their ability to manipulate plant life. They can:
Raise massive plant beasts, including the powerful Genesaur, which act as enforcers of the Evergrowth.
Control minds, turning organic beings into unwilling servants.
Revive fallen plant-based creatures, making them difficult to eradicate.
Transform corpses into plant constructs, absorbing organic matter into their network.
Their most dangerous ability is the Evergrowth itself, which is a form of biological corruption that can rapidly overtake entire ecosystems. If left unchecked, the Botani could theoretically consume an entire world.
