Boulder is a minor character in Erin Hunter's Warriors book series.
He was a warrior of ShadowClan who used to be a member of BloodClan and later a rogue, before joining ShadowClan. He admired the Clan for its' culture and served its' six leaders in the next moons, including Brokenstar, during the latter's tyrannical rule, before eventually retiring.
Biography[]
Yellowfang's Secret/Exile from ShadowClan[]
Boulder first appears as a rogue among the cat group under Jay's lead during Yellowpaw and Raggedpelt's visit in search of the latter's father. He wonders aloud how it would be like to live in the forest. Two moons later, he is among the cats from Twolegplace who get into a conflict with ShadowClan, after having tresspassed on its' territory. After the ensuing battle, Boulder and Red are brought into the camp, expressing their desire to join the Clan after being shown mercy in the battle. They are temporary allowed to stay by Cedarstar, who adds that if they will prove their loyalty to the Clan in the upcoming moon, then they will join the Clan. Later he and Red are seen sharing a vole and promise to keep Yellowfang's earlier visit to Twolegplace a secret. Next day the two newcomers are given their official mentors, although unlike Red, Boulder requests to keep his name. He and Russetpaw then participate in a training session with Yellowfang, Foxpaw, Rowanberry, Raggedpelt and Brackenfoot. Several days later, upon witnessing rogues and kittypets from Twolegplace attack the Clan in search of Boulder and Russetfur, the two explain their new affiliation to their former friends and are horrified when Raggedpelt kills his father. Once the conflict is over, he and Russetpaw become official warriors of ShadowClan.
Moons later, Boulder is optimistic about Brokenpaw's future and mourns after Cedarstar's eventual death, claiming that he and Russetfur will never forget his generosity and thank him for allowing them to join the Clan life. Later, he gets treated by Yellowfang after having caught a thorn in his paw, admitting his overeagerness in trying to catch a blackbird, before joining Brokentail's patrol. After the skirmish against WindClan, Boulder is horrified upon learning of Raggedstar's death, admitting to having fought some WindClan cats but not being aware of his leader's possible injury. After Raggedstar's burial and Brokenstar's takeover as a leader, Boulder is made a mentor to Wetpaw. During Brokenstar's reign, Boulder has become more arrogant, began to share his leader's darwinistic beliefs and became one of his most loyal followers. He leads a patrol of warriors to steal prey from the exiled elders' camp, claiming that real warriors need it. Upon successfully driving WindClan away from their territory, Boulder boasts to Scorchwing about his victory in battle over WindClan's deputy, although Yellowfang snaps at him to allow her to treat his ragged ear.
The Prophecies Begin/Leopardstar's Honor[]
Boulder is present during ThunderClan patrol's and the exiled Elders' attack on the camp, where he fights Cinderfur. Soon enough however, Brokenstar and his followers are quickly driven away, becoming rogues. Couple moons later, Brokenstar's followers attack ThunderClan's camp in revenge of their previous defeat, but flee after their leader has been blinded and captured.
Along with the rest of Brokenstar's followers, Boulders follows Tigerclaw in another attack on ThunderClan's camp, although the rogues get beaten once more. He rejoins ShadowClan under Tigerstar's rule and later, alongside Jaggedtooth, is sent to supervise the merge of RiverClan into ShadowClan and as a result, into TigerClan. Boulder leads Tigerstar into Twolegplace to meet Scourge in hopes of forming an alliance against ThunderClan. After Tigerstar's death at the claws of Scourge, a terrified Boulder has taken refuge in RiverClan, along with the rest of ShadowClan. He mentions his past allegiance within BloodClan to Firestar, expressing his shock over Tigerstar's death and adds that he would love to fight BloodClan if not just for the opportunity of fighting Jaggedtooth for his betrayal of ShadowClan. Eventually, Boulder fights alongside the other Clans against his former "Clan" and after the victory, rejoins ShadowClan under Blackfoot's leadership.
The New Prophecy[]
It's revealed that Boulder has retired to become an elder. During the debate about the Clans' possible places for a new home, Blackstar mentions that one of his elders used to be a member of BloodClan, so he can show them on the now-abandoned territory of the said group. Although the other Clans disagree with this option.
