Bractor is the main antagonist of the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "Peak Performance".
He was played by Armin Shimerman, who also played Letek in "The Last Outpost" and voiced Dr. Nefarious in Ratchet & Clark and Andrew Ryan in Bio Shock.
Bractor was a Ferengi DaiMon in command of the Kreetcha. He and his crew observed a simulated war game between the Enterprise and an antiquated ship, the USS Hathaway, under Commander Riker. Not understanding the sight of one Federation ship attacking another and suspecting there might be profit involved, Bractor interrupted the war game and fired on the Enterprise, managing to lock its phasers in low power and disable its transporters.
Bractor contacted Picard, curious as to why he would attack the Hathaway and now defend it. Picard refused to give him an explanation, leaving Bractor convinced there was something valuable on board the Hathaway. He gave Picard ten minutes to withdraw or he would destroy the Enterprise.
Picard and Riker worked out a ruse between them. The Enterprise fired at the Hathaway which promptly jumped to warp, with the explosion of the photon torpedoes convincing Bractor that the Enterprise had destroyed the ship rather than let him have it. Bractor prepared to destroy the Enterprise but Riker and Worf projected a false sensor reading convincing him that another Federation ship was arriving. Believing himself outgunned, Bractor fled the scene.
Bractor later had a small role in the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine novel The 34th Rule as one of the Ferengi blockading the Bajoran system after an outbreak of hostilities between the two races.
