Biography[]
Adams was lower class than his friends, working his way up the pyramid to get his life in college with them. He joined their group, but he also hated then constantly teasing and insulting him for not having similar starts to them. It's later revealed his father, a pastor, abused him regularly, his mother never stopping it, which he always resented. Seeing his big ticket to work for his life being troubled by bias only rubbed salt in his wounds. He was infatuated with one girl in the group, Beth, but she was already dating. With that secret he could never tell her, as well as hating her friends while still wanting her to himself, he planned to kill them all, all but her to keep her to himself. She started by passing a note under the door of her college boyfriend saying "Do You Wanna Know a Secret?". Assuming the note's from Beth, the boyfriend only goes out in the hall, only for Brad to axe him repeatedly when appearing with a rubber caricature mask and black hoodie. Beth was grief-stricken but soon moved onto Hank, one of her friends, and the two started dating each other. Her last boyfriend's murder was never solved, and rumors even spread about her being responsible, even for so much as endangering him.
A year after the murder, during a spring break vacation in Florida, the rest of the friends continue to mess with him about his status. Adams later tries to be alluring to Beth, but she lets him down gently, saying they should stay friends. Later still, he's told to go work on the boat docked by the house by the group despite Adams resenting the rejection. The boat's later seen rocking, and along with his computer saying "Do You Wanna Know a Secret?", his shirt's found covered in blood even though he's missing. Friend Tina kisses Hank while drunk, and Beth stays away from Hank until being saved from a roofie from a lewd bar patron. The patron's later confronted outside of the bar by the killer in signature garb, stabbing him to death and carving "Do You Wanna Know a Secret?" in his back. Seeing the connection to the crimes in Florida and the murder back at the college, the local police and FBI agent assigned to the case say to not leave town, as the friends are all suspects. The spree only escalates from there. The killer knocks Oz out in the kitchen, then slits Tina's and Nellie's throats, writing "Do You Wanna Know a Secret?" on the wall in blood. Oz comes to and finds the two college women dead, leaving him arrested for the murders. Later on, Adams goes and confronts his parents, showing clips that imply his abuse, watching them cry and beg for mercy before they're both killed. Despite the confidence in Oz as a suspect, the head detective in the local police sees "Do You Wanna Know a Secret?" on the bathroom wall, and when going to take a leak, the killer snatches him and stabs him to death in the stall. Oz is released from custody, Hank nowhere to be found. When a driver passes Beth wearing the killer's mask, she follows the car and has Oz find her later before they both search the Everglades. When they go into the woods, they unintentionally separate leading to the killer knocking Oz out and abducting him and Beth. Oz wakes up tied up in a basement and when breaking free Hears Beth's screams from above.
The masked killer walks down the candlelit aisle of what's revealed is a chapel over to Beth, who's tied to a chair and blindfolded on the stage in a wedding dress and veil. He removes her blindfold and caresses her face before removing his mask, revealing the killer was Adams all along. He faked his death by cutting his arm and spilling his blood on his shirt before running off. He then does her lipstick again, before stroking her some more and going on about how much she's admired her and how disrespected he saw her as. Adams directs Beth's attention to the pews, where his parents, Nellie, and Tina are all sitting dead, insulting and even hitting their corpses. He then pulls out his switchblade and cuts open the seams in her dress slowly. Oz appears and challenges him to fight, which he does, lengthily. Oz is punched out again and tied to one of the columns. Adams them runs up to Beth and asks "Do You Wanna Know a Secret?", before revealing his love for her and that all his crimes and planning were done to be with her, that he'd even sacrifice herself for him. Beth says Hank will beat Adams down when he gets to chapel. Adams says he already is, holding up his decapitated head before throwing it aside, leaving Beth and Oz they're own only hopes. While loosening her binds, and Oz sawing his on the column, she rejects him openly, which he doesn't take well. He cuts his arm in front of her saying he "can't even feel it", wishing he were real and not people making themselves images they weren't like her and her friends. She then lunges at him and fights with him on the ground. Oz breaks free and joins in, wrestling Adams off her. When Adams is about to kill him for god, Beth comes from behind and stabs Adams all the way through with a fire poker, his blood spilling on Oz. As Oz gets up and the two look down at Adams, Adams musters out his disgust over his love for her turning him into a killer. He then seemingly bleeds to death, leaving Beth and Oz to walk off. but Adams gets up again, poker still impaled in him, and tries to charge them both. The FBI agent comes and shoots him once, killing him for good almost instantly. He reveals Adams being the son of the pastor and his wife after tracking his other surname, before walking the two out back to their lives, to graduate while mourning their dead friends.
