"I am the duke of darkness who became the king of demons for revenge."
~ Bram Stoker to Aya Koda.

Bram Stoker is a major character of the manga/anime series Bungo Stray Dogs. He is a former member of the Decay of the Angel.

He played a vital role in the final phase of their plan, turning half of the population into vampires and take control of mankind. However, Bram truly wanted no part of their plans of turning people into vampires because of his refusal to add more people to his kindred, so he helped Aya Koda escape the airport and put a stop to the vampire invasion. He is based off of the Irish horror novelist of the same name and is inspired by his character Count Dracula.

He is voiced by Kenjiro Tsuda in the Japanese, and by Cory Yee (who also voiced Sigma from the same series) in the English Dub.

Personality[]

Bram is usually an emotionless person who craves nothing more than to sleep in his coffin for abnormally long periods of time, when Ochi Fukuchi told him he was asleep for only two weeks, Bram wanted to sleep for more than that. Despite his desire to just sleep, he does seem to get bord in his coffin from time to time, which is why he always asked for radio.

With the time period he lived in and the way he talks, Bram seems to lack half the knowledge about what goes on in the modern world such mistaking a truck for a carriage without a horse, showing that he never if not rarely goes out much.

According to his tragic back story and how the world treated him and his people in his time, Bram likely holds a distain towards his own ability, swearing that he would never drink anyone's blood and turn them into his kin. However, when Fukuchi threatened him by saying he would fry his brain using the Holly Sword, he would go against his vow regardless of how much he doesn't want to.

When around Aya, Bram is more engaged in conversations with her than with anyone else, he even goes on to tell her tidbits of information about his past. The two of them usually have comic relief moments, especially when they first meet. Throughout their time together, Bram starts to care deeply about Aya and she reminds him of his daughter who looks identical to her. After the vampire invasion, he becomes her "knight" and vows to protect her.

Abilities[]

  • Vampirism is Bram's main ability, it's an infection-type ability that turns whoever he bites into a vampire. It's infection rate is fast and was even faster when Fukuchi held the Holly Sword attached to Bram's body. It's also possible that the ability can bring a person back from the dead and heal their wounds as seen with Ryunosuke Akutagawa.
  • Levitation: When his body grew back after the Holly Sword was pulled out of him, Bram was able to levitate onto the ground.

Trivia[]

  • The real-life Bram Stoker's birthname is Abraham Stoker.
  • In the synopsis of Bungo Stray Dogs Volume 22, he is referred to as "Vlad". This is a reference to the inspiration of Count Dracula being the Romanian ruler Vlad the Impaler.
  • Bram dislikes sunlight, garlic, and the smell of roses and horseshoes.
  • Fukuchi stated in chapter 88 that he provides Bram with sunscreen and soil from his homeland inside his coffin.
