Braun is a supporting antagonist in the 1989 film Licence to Kill and it accompanying novelisation. He is a German fugitive (novelisation only) and enforcer working for drug lord Franz Sanchez.
He was portrayed by Guy De Saint Cyr.
Biography[]
Nothing is revealed about Braun's past in the film, though the novelisation reveals that he comes from Germany and fled because there is a price on his head in Berlin. He serves as one of the three main enforcers to the wanted drug dealer Franz Sanchez, alongside Perez and Dario.
Braun's first appearance is at the beginning of the film, when Sanchez catches an associate named Alvarez sleeping with his mistress Lupe Lamora. Braun watches as Sanchez beats Lupe with a stingray tail and then drags Alvarez outside, where Dario cuts out his heart. Braun, Dario and Perez then run away as the DEA arrive to arrest Sanchez.
After Sanchez is broken out of jail by corrupt DEA agent Ed Killifer, Braun and Perez were present as Dario maimed DEA agent Felix Leiter as revenge for imprisoning Sanchez. They were also responsible for the murder and possible rape of Felix's wife Della.
Thanks to the efforts of Leiter's friend James Bond in framing Sanchez's associates for the sabotage of his operations, Perez and Braun find money stolen from Sanchez on-board a boat owned by drug runner Milton Krest. Braun then watches as a furious Sanchez throws Krest into a decompression chamber and kills him by turning the pressure to full and rupturing the vent. He later appears at the chemical plant where Sanchez's cocaine is ground up and put into trucks for transport, where he kills a corrupt soldier named Colonel Heller by impaling him on a forklift truck, as Sanchez believes him to be stealing from him. He also follows the convoy carrying the drugs in a pickup truck, with Perez riding shotgun and other gunmen on the back.
When Bond, having escaped from the compound and destroyed several of the trucks, attacks the last trucks, Braun and Perez chase him in the pickup. Having had one of the truck destroyed in front of him, Braun drives through a wall of flame, forcing the men on the back to get off and setting the tyres on fire. However, this proves to be his undoing when Bond opens a valve on the final tanker and spills a trail of petrol into the road, causing the tyres of Braun's truck to catch fire and blow up him and Perez to death.
