Brawl is a minor antagonist in Generation One of the Transformers franchise. He is part of the Combaticons subgroup. Brawl is a loud, unsubtle soldier filled with rage and and violence.

He was voiced by the late Tony St James.

Biography[]

With the rest of the Combaticons, Brawl was introduced late in the second season in the episode "Starscream's Brigade". Starscream took the personality modules of a group of Decepticon criminals and fitted them to military vehicles, creating the Combaticons, who he used in his latest attempt to overthrow Megatron. However, they were defeated by the Stunticons and sent into exile with Starscream on an asteroid. They escaped to Cybertron and took charge of the space bridge, threatening to pull Earth into the sun. The Autobots and Decepticons confined to defeat them and Brawl and the others were reprogrammed to serve Megatron. After being disabled during a later fight with the Protectobots, Brawl had his personality module stolen and implanted into a human-built robot named B.O.T.

Brawl continued to make occasional appearances after the events of The Transformers: The Movie, and was among the Transformers infected with the Hate Plague. He took part in Galvatron's final assault on the Autobots before Cybertron was reborn for the second golden age.

Brawl first appeared in the UK-exclusive story "Second Generation", as part of a vision Optimus Prime and Buster Witwicky had of the future of the Transformers, which was monitored by Shockwave. After being constructed, Brawl appeared in US #24 with the other Combaticons accompanying Megatron in trying to steal the hydrothermocline. Brawl ended up battling a group of Autobots in virtual reality, where he was "killed" by Streetwise and First Aid, but the mission was a success with the Decepticons winning the hydrothermocline and causing the apparent death of Optimus Prime. Not long after, Brawl made the mistake of doubting Megatron's belief Optimus Prime was still alive and had his head crushed by him.

He was repaired in time for the "Ladies' Night" storyline where he and the other Combaticons were sent with Soundwave to blow up the volcano containing Galvatron and Ultra Magnus. They were defeated by the Throttlebots and proceeded to pursue first them and then the Protectobots before being defeated by Blaster. Brawl's last Marvel US appearance was in Issue #41 as part of the large Decepticon army battling the Autobots on the moon. Like many of the earlier Decepticons, he may have been deactivated during the Underbase Saga.

However, the UK annual story "Prime Bomb" shows him going on to serve Scorponok and helping thwart the Protectobots' attempt to ambush Dreadwind and Darkwing.
