Breda McQueen is a fictional character and supporting antagonist in the British soap opera television series Hollyoaks. She appeared as the show's main antagonist from June 2018 until January 2020.

The character was portrayed by Moyà Brady.

Biography[]

Breda McQueen first arrived in the fictionalized village Hollyoaks in June 2018. She was a nanny who exhibited a devoted Catholic status and was also the estranged adoptive mother of Sylver McQueen.

It soon transpired that she grew up at a farm with an abusive father who often mistreated her mother. Eventually, Breda killed her father after the abuse continued to went on beyond stopping. Upon her arrival in Hollyoaks, Breda became a nanny for the Lomax and Osborne families. She originally decided to work for Leela Lomax, but later agreed to work for Jack Osborne as it became clear that he developed a crush on her. They were due to get married in June 2019, but the wedding ended with Breda jilting Jack and their relationship collapsed.

It is later revealed that Breda is a serial killer who specializes in murdering people for either being abusive or neglecting their families, such as the case with her father. The other people who Breda has murdered prior to her arrival include Sylver's father Wes for turning violent on his son Peter, whom she used to babysit in the past; and Breda's ex-husband Vinnie for mistreating her and their daughter Goldie. Soon enough, Breda's penchant for homicide continues when she murders Carl Costello by beating him to death with a rock and later kills Glenn Donovan by poisoning his beer.

In November 2018, Breda suspects that Goldie's relationship with her boyfriend Russ Owen is in trouble. This proves to be true when Ross gets Goldie pregnant and forces her to have an abortion. When Breda learns about this, she confronts Ross for aborting her daughter's child - also Breda's grandchild - and murders him in a fit of rage.

By 2019, Breda's serial killings appear to have continued without end when she murders both Louis Loveday and Harry Thompson on separate occasions. She also kills Mac Nightingale when he attempts to blackmail her into eliminating his son, James. Throughout the course of her killing spree, though, Breda manages to cover up all her actions and maintain a façade of innocence behind everyone's back. It later becomes clear that Breda has embarked on a feud with family relative Mercedes McQueen, and that Sylver is somewhat resentful of her mother after Breda had convinced her to take the rap for Vinnie's murder and got to prison for it in the past. At somepoint, Breda finds herself under suspicion from local resident Tony Hutchinson and he eventually confronts her over multiple murders. Tony prepares to report Breda to the police, but she stabs him and knocks him out before he could do so. Breda then abducts Tony and holds him captive in a farm for months; he attempted to escape at one point, but she violent subdues him and he is recaptured.

In January 2019, Breda's crimes finally catch up with her when she attempts to kill Mercedes and her children learn the truth about Breda's killing spree. She is finally taken down when Sylver stabs Breda, killing her and ending her mother's reign of terror once and for all.
