Brehen, known as the Cat of Iello, is a minor character in the Witcher Franchise.
He is a Witcher from the school of the cat known for killing all the inhabitants of the village of Iello. When Brehen confronted Geralt, he informed him of the contract on the Striga of Vizima, which caused the events of the first story of The Last Wish.
Biography[]
Past[]
As a child, Brehen was adopted by witchers from the school of the cat. Like many witchers of this school, the witcher mutations on Brehen failed, which resulted in Brehen becoming very aggressive. Brehen's training as a witcher focused on speed, focus, and agility, thanks to these skills he could effectively hunt monsters and work as a bounty hunter.
Iello's Slaughter[]
In 1241 Brehen came to Iello where he slaughtered the people of the city due to his bloodlust. For this reason he was nicknamed the Cat of Iello.
After this massacre of Iello, all witcher schools banned him from staying in places where schools operate, such as the Kaer Morhen fortress. This act led to all the inhabitants of the northern continent starting to see witchers negatively, not often being held in contempt for them. Despite being treated badly by witchers, Brehen continued to perform the work of a witcher. During this time, Brehen engaged in the most unnoble of activities, such as assassinations and contract killings.
Season of Storms[]
Some time later, in 1245, Brehen came to Temeria where he wanted to perform a cure for the Striga that was prowling throughout Vizima. At night, Brehen stopped at the inn "Under the Deer and the Wild Boar" and after him, a witcher from the wolf school, Geralt of Rivia, and his friend Dandelion who were traveling in Kerack entered the inn.
At first Brehen hid in the shadows from them hiding his identity but he failed to be unnoticed when Geralt accosted him recognizing him. Brehen instead of attacking Geralt immediately got up and started a fight with him in which the witcher from the cat school behaved rudely and aggressively towards Geralt. Because Brehen thought that Geralt was hired by Vesemir to kill him which was not true. Brehen also thought that Geralt intended to get rid of the Striga in Vizima before him, on a commission the White Wolf had not yet heard of at the time.
Full of fury Brehen did not believe Geralt even once, only because he wanted to duel him. The tension grew so much that Brehen threatened Geralt that if he refused he would start killing people present in the inn, putting a blade to the throat of one of the priestesses to confirm his words. Despite this, Gerart refused because he wanted to try to convince Brehen to leave him and the guests in the inn alone, noting that he would not allow a repeat of Iello. At first Brehen did not believe Geralt because he was confident and thought that the witcher from the school of the wolf had lost his swords, so he almost ignored his pleas until Tiziana Frevi, at the request of Yennefer of Vengerberg, planted Geralt's stolen swords.
After Geralt got his recovered swords Brehen probably got stressed thinking he wouldn't have any chances with Geralt he gave up and ran away from the Inn without a trace. It is generally unknown what happened to Brehen after the events of the confrontation with Geralt. Because since the first story from The Last Wish he has not been heard from whether he took on the contract for the striga from Vizima or simply resigned but it is known that thanks to him Geralt learned about this task.
