Biography[]
His first appearance and conflict with Brer Rabbit is near the very beginning of the film, where Brer Fox is chasing Brer Rabbit into a wishing well and attempts to get him out, but ends up falling in himself and getting stuck in the well due to Brer Rabbit's trickery.
Brer Fox's second main appearance is when Brer Fox sees Brer Rabbit hopping along a trail toward Brer Fox's home. He tricks Brer Rabbit into helping him fix the roof of his house in exchange for the award of a meal for Brer Rabbit. He ends up soon eventually chasing Br'er Rabbit on the roof of his home with a large mallet, attempting to smack it on Brer Rabbit over and over as he chases him. During the chase, Br'er Fox smacks the mallet onto the roof, breaking a hole and slipping into it, getting his head stuck in the hole. While he struggles to get out, Brer Rabbit lets out a cry of pain moments later and yanks his head out of the hole, only to find Brer Rabbit nailing his tail onto the roof, soon shouting at him to unnail his tail. Br'er Rabbit merely laughs and remarks that he'd unail Brer Fox's tail, 'When rabbit's fly!'. The conflict ends when Brer Rabbit is picked up by Sister Buzzard and is lifted into the air, leaving Brer Fox with his tail nailed to the roof.
Brer Fox is, later in the film, briefly seen in his Peanut Patch scolding Brer Bear after Brer Rabbit tricks him into a rope trap in the Peanut Patch, thinking Brer Bear was attempting to take the peanuts.
Soon, Brer Fox is seen fishing with Brer Rabbit and the other animals by the pond during the night, bragging about how much fish he had, more than Brer Rabbit, who actually had none. Brer Rabbit tricks Brer Fox and the other animals regarding how Sister Moon, who as actually a reflection of Sister Moon in the pond water, scared the fish out of the pond, and getting them to abandon their fish and fall in the pond trying to fish her out, and Brer Fox is seen soaking wet in the pond.
Brer Fox is then seen having a party later on in the film, not inviting Brer Rabbit to the party because of all the things he'd done to them and Brer Rabbit's trickery. In an act of mischief and a bit of revenge for not being invited, Brer Rabbit covers himself in mud, leaves, and sticks, making himself look like a small, muddy monster with horns and fangs. He scares Br'er Fox and the other animals in the party out of the house in a panicked frenzy.
Brer Fox is later seen attempting to lure Brer Bear into a trap to have him for dinner for a family gathering. His plan fails due to Brer Rabbit, and instead of trapping Brer Bear, he trapped a lion who chases him around with a mallet while Brer Fox screams for help and Br'er Rabbit and Brer Bear laugh and share the honey that Br'er Fox has used to lure Brer Bear to the failed trap.
Shortly after this, when Brer Rabbit is going to bed, out of anger, Brer Fox breaks down Brer Rabbit's door with an axe and is then seen carrying Brer Rabbit tied to a stick, planning to have him for dinner. But Brer Rabbit tricks Brer Fox about how eating a sad rabbit causes him the "Heebie jeebies, the creepy crawlies, and a little bit of them dropsies thrown in". He tells Br'er Fox that to make him happy, he needed to take him to his laughing place, and, convinced, Brer Fox drags Brer Rabbit "all over creation", until they reach a scrawny, scrappy tree. Outraged, Brer Fox shouts at Brer Rabbit about how he had walked all over for a "pathetic, old, tree". Brer Rabbit shakes his head and tells him to knock three times on the Laughing Tree, as he calls it, and after Brer Fox angrilly knocks on the tree, a buzzing noise sounds. As it turns out, the tree had a large hole in the center, with a beehive inside. The bees angrily fly out and begin chasing Brer Fox, who, screaming runs off in a panic as he gets stung.
Later on, Brer Fox is seen with Brer Wolf (who is the secondary antagonist in the film), planning Brer Rabbit's downfall by thinking up a way to catch him and trap Brer Rabbit to finally be rid of him once and for all. Both deadly friends make a tar baby and trap Brer Rabbit with it, who gets stuck to the tar. Brer Fox's sadistic side seems to show here, as he plans eagerly of Brer Rabbit's fate, stating to Brer Rabbit that, "Today is the day you finally get what's coming to you!". Eventually, unknowing agreeing to trickery from Brer Rabbit, they throw him in a briar patch, but Brer Rabbit suddenly jumps up and laughs, claiming that he was born and raised in a briar patch. Dumbfounded and angry, Brer Fox and Brer Wolf glance at each other and scream, looking back at Brer Rabbit in disbelief, Brer Fox saying that, "I cannot STAND him!" when Brer Rabbit blows raspberry at Brer Fox and teases him from the safety of the briar patch. Then, finally, both angered, Brer Fox and Brer Wolf run forward and into the briar patch, only to yowl and scream with pain as they realize their mistake and get covered in thorns. Brer Fox states "Brer Rabbit, I'm gonna get you for this!", waving his fist in the air, while Brer Rabbit laughs and replies, "That'll be the day, Brer Fox, that's be the day!" before hopping away and escaping.
Brer Fox is soon briefly seen at the end of the film, where he asks Brer Turtle where Brer Rabbit went. Brer Turtle, a close friend of Brer Rabbit, points Brer Fox the direction, which was, unknowingly, to Brer Fox, purposely the wrong direction, and the fox heads off, saying "That's smart of you to tell me. Next time I'm hungry, maybe I won't eat ya.".
That is Brer Fox's final appearance in the film.
