Brock Mason is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside Russell Barnaby) of the 2006 video game Dead Rising, the first installment of the Dead Rising series.

He is the leader of a military Special Forces group sent to eliminate the zombies and any survivors to cover up the incident, which caused the massacre in Santa Cabeza that in turn caused Carlito Keyes to go insane, dragging Isabela Keyes along and trying to kill many people of the United States of America, beginning in Willamette.

He was voiced by Gregg Berger.

Biography

Dead Rising

Jessie McCarney informs Frank West that the government has denied any involvement or existence of the situation; saying that Special Forces will arrive soon for cleanup at midnight, meaning they are coming to get rid of any evidence of the incident, including humans and zombies. The first time Brock was seen is when watches his soldiers after the cleanup operation has finished and takes off his mask.

While Frank and Isabela are on their way to escape, they are ultimately stopped by an XM3 Prototype Tank. After the boss fight ends, it shows that Brock was the one driving the tank and attacking them. He orders Frank to turn around and talk to him, where he asks about Frank's plans while revealing his clean-up operations, at the same time coitizing humanity for making these mistakes in the first place despite selfishly carrying out the orders that propagated their greatest blunder to date. Brock then realized that large groups of zombies are going toward him, making Frank punch him, causing Brock to turn hostile and attack him.

After this, the real final battle is waged on top of the tank, basic hand-to-hand combat made more difficult by the fact that a massive horde of zombies is surrounding the tank from all sides, making falling off a rather unpleasant experience. In the end, Mason is defeated and falls off the tank into the horde of zombies and is devoured, all with a faint smile and no sound of being devoured was made. His reign of terror put to an end at last.

Dead Rising: Road to Fortune

When Frank West and Rebecca Chang tried to enter into Las Vegas, they are confronted by Captain John Kilduff, who also tells Frank that he was a good friend of Brock who came up through SPECFOR together, claiming he was a good man and soldier and was proud to serve with. Frank remarks that Brock was weak and 'Punched like a little girl'. Leaving, Kilduff shouts 'SOMEDAY WEST...SOMEDAY' to Frank, swearing to get revenge for Brock. The latter boasting he'll be waiting.

Description

Appearance

He is a middle-aged man in his late 30's and wears a well-geared military outfit with body armor. He also seems to appear to be bald, no eyebrows, and has several scars on his face.

Personality

Brock stands as an amoral sociopathic predator whom feels no real tithe nor' sense of responsibility over creating the onset of zombies to begin with. Cynical, emotionless and apathetic as a human being, he shows no regard for, with an obvious contempt of, humanity along with anyone else as a whole. Saying that the only thing humanity is good at is making mistakes. Brock showed no emotion over the loss of his fellow soldiers, the massacre at Willamette or the destruction of Carlito or Isabela's home, seeing the cleanup as nothing but another routine mission in need of being accomplished no matter the cost, even Frank called him out for his apathy.

Skills

Mason is shown to be skilled at hand-to-hand combatant with high durability, being able to take very high amounts of damage from the front, and some of agility and good marksmanship possibly through his military training. He is skilled at driving and using militarized vehicles and hardware, being able to operate his tank with little effort.

Trivia

• Even though Mason's actions caused the plot, Carlito is the one driving the plot, making this a Big Bad Ensemble. However, Mason is the Greater Scope Villain for the entire series because his role in the Santa Cabeza outbreak indirectly led up to the outbreaks in all the games.
• Brock Mason can be seen as a dark parallel to Frank West, Brock has fought in wars in contrast to Frank who covered them. Both have opposing objectives, Brock's mission was to cover up the events of Willamette while Frank's job is to expose it to the public.
• He shares some similarities with Raymond Sullivan from Dead Rising 2. They both are well trained hand-to-hand fighters, fight on a small platform surrounded by zombies and will ruthlessly carry out their mission. Also, both have zero remorse for their actions, though both of them are trying to contain zombie outbreaks. However, Raymond is a well intentioned extremist that wants to keep the important people alive by causing outbreaks, while Brock is driven purely by spite and his misanthropic world views.
• He also shares some similarities with Sgt. Dwight Boykin, being that they both are with the military and are both psychopaths. However, Mason couldn't care less for the men under his command while Boykin appears to have a strong admiration for each soldier, making them opposites in personality.
• Mason is mentioned in Dead Rising: Road to Fortune by John Kilduff, who states to be very good friend to Mason. It is hinting that John is possibly oblivious like Mason or does not seem to care about Mason's genocidal actions.
• Isabela Keyes in Dead Rising 3 shares similarities with him, given how both of them have scars, are able to sacrifice anyone for their goals and developed a disregard for humanity.
