Bruce Irvin is a supporting character in the Tekken franchise. He is a Muay Thai Kickboxer who made his first debut in Tekken 2 as a minor antagonist, as well an unlockable character and sub-boss for Lei Wulong, a minor character in Tekken 3, a major anti-hero in Tekken 5 and a supporting antagonist in Tekken 6.
He was voiced by Crispin Freeman.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Bruce grew up in a rough life, being born in a dangerous neighborhood with criminals and gangsters. When he was a young child, his parents and older brother were killed by gangsters and he was left with no family. With no one to turn to, Bruce was forced to survive on his own on the streets and trained in the art of Muay Thai kickboxing. He used his skills in underground fights to earn money and developed a reputation for himself, competing in professional tournaments and becoming an undisputed heavyweight champion.
However, when Bruce entered a Muay Thai tournament in Thailand, a bookmaker tried to offer Bruce money to rig the fight and lose, but Bruce refused his offer and killed his opponent. The bookmaker was enraged by this and hired a killer to assassinate Bruce. While an investigator from Hong Kong's International Police Force was sent to arrest Bruce for murder. Bruce was forced to flee out of the country. However the assassin and detective were on the plane with Bruce, resulting in a fight, which caused the plane to crash.
Bruce survived the crash while the assassin and detective were killed. While in the foreign wilderness, Bruce has been surviving off of human remains and having amnesia for several months. Later, he was found by Kazuya Mishima and his forces. Seeing the potential in him, Kazuya hired Bruce as his personal mercenary and they became friends.
Tekken 2[]
When Kazuya was arranged the second King of Iron Fist Tournament, Bruce enters in it to test out his abilities, but was defeated by Lei Wulong, who was the police partner of the detective that was killed in the plane crash. After Kazuya was killed by his father Heihachi, Bruce left the former's forces and became a survival school instructor.
Ending: As Bruce practices, a little boy watches him through the window. Bruce notice the boy and smiles, striking a couple blows to the punching bag and finishing it with a powerful kick and breaking the bag off its chains. The boy is shocked and falls to the ground. Bruce opens the window and gives a thumbs up to the boy.
Tekken 3[]
Bruce does not appear in the game, but is mention in Lei's bio, stating that Bruce's plane crashed was caused by Kazuya's men to silence Bruce, but Lei believes that the plane accident was staged by Kazuya and Bruce survived. Lei was unable to solve the case and decide to solve other crimes for the next 20 years.
Tekken Tag Tournament[]
Ending: The camera approaches Bruce, but he turns around and throws punches and kicks to the camera. It is revealed that Bruce defeated Kazuya, Heihachi Mishima and many Tekken Force soldiers.
Tekken 5[]
Twenty-one years later, Bruce heard that Kazuya had entered the fourth King of Iron Fist tournament and took interest and wanted learn more behind Kazuya's presumed death. When a fifth King of Iron Fist tournament was announced, Bruce entered and wanted to test his abilities against the Mishima Zaibatsu. After the tournament, Bruce reunited with Kazuya and joined his aid in taken over the G Corporation.
Ending: A young boy is seen in an alley practicing boxing on a punching bag. Three gangsters show up and harass, cut open the punching bag, beat the boy and stole his gloves. Out of nowhere, Bruce appears and beats up the gangsters. Bruce returns the glove back to the boy and encourages him to keep praciticing.
Tekken 6[]
While Bruce's role in the last tournament was minor, the plot of taken over the G Corporation was successful. Kazuya ran the schemes from behind the scenes while Bruce and his forces travel across the globe eliminating any Mishima Zaibatsu operatives.
While the plan to eliminate the Mishima Zaibatsu was progressing, Kazuya put a bounty onto the Zaibatsu's leader as well his son, Jin Kazama. In order to lure him out in the open, Kazuya arranged the sixth King of Iron Fist Tournament. Bruce enters the tournament for the prize and ordered to capture Jin. However, he was unsuccessful.
Ending: Bruce and the G Corporation's private army are seen fighting against the Mishima Zaibatsu. Him and his men took down several soldiers and captured them. Bruce calls HQ and tells him that he's won the bet between them. After the receiver tells him to clean up, Bruce replies that he does not need to be told twice and rallies up his men.
Tekken Tag Tournament 2[]
Ending: The scene with Bruce running past people and manages in the middle of the road, where he smashes a car's bonnet with his elbow to save a baby chick that was in the middle of the road. Bruce picks it up and tells it "You're safe now.", before the car explodes behind him.
Tekken Forever[]
In the comic book, Bruce serves as a supporting antagonist and one of Kazuya's bodyguards.
Tekken: The Motion Picture[]

In the OVA, he serves as a minor antagonist and was voiced by Seiji Sasaki in the Japanese dub and by Peter Harrell Jr. in the English dub. He serves as a bodyguard for Lee Chaolan and was easily defeated by Jack-2.
Personality[]
Bruce is a complex character, between being a brooding and cynical, while also having benevolence for protecting children and fighting gangsters and bullies. This is most likely due to his rough past and despising criminals due to the deaths of his family, despite working for Kazuya. He seems to have some form of friendship with Kazuya, whom he's respect and returns the favor for his help in taking over the G Corporation and leading his army. In the Scenario Campaign in the Sixth game, he is often described by others to be sadistic.
