~ Brunhilda's catchphrase.

Brunhilda (also known as The Stepmother or The Wicked Stepmother) is the overarching antagonist of the 2002 fantasy comedy film Hansel and Gretel directed by Gary J. Tunnicliffe which is based on the fairy tale of the same name. She is the film's version of the Evil Stepmother from the oringal fairy tale.

She was portrayed by Delta Burke.

Biography[]

Brunhilda is the evil stepmother of Hansel and Gretel. She married their father and seduced and manipulated him to get attention and to get Hansel and Gretel in trouble. She also hides food from them so she can have it all to herself, such as a week's worth of bread and cheese. She later steals Hansel and Gretel's late mother's locket and destroys her picture intending to sell the locket and become wealthy. When Hansel and Gretel's father leaves to to make money in the city, she takes Hansel and Gretel to the Magic Forest under the threat of killing them with her axe and takes all the rocks that Hansel was dropping to help him and Gretel find their way back home. She eventually gets herself lost in the forest when trying to find her way back home. After wandering for some time she stumbles upon the Troll's cave after falling for a misleading sign that points to food when in reality leads to more danger such as the homes of monsters which Hansel and Gretel falls for earlier in the film where she breaks into and makes her new home as he has food and a TV. She also forces the Troll to become her servant and has him make her food like fried chicken and cocktails and forcing him to call her "darling dearest". The Troll eventually resents her and prays to God that she leaves and does not come back. He prays all the way into the nighttime, where Brunhilda leaves to go find him and scolds him for not doing the chores she assigned to him such as washing the dishes. He attempts to zap her using his laser abilites, much to her anger. While scolding him and swatting away his hands to keep him from zapping her, The Witch's talking raven flies by her and steals the locket, much to her distress and anger as that was her only way of becoming wealthy. She frantically asks the troll to do something then furiously leaves his domain in search of the raven and her locket he stole. At the end of the film, after searching for the raven for some time stubles across the Witch's gingebread house. She walks in, grabs a broom, and begins to sweep the front porch. She then cackles evily and moves into the gingerbread house.
