“ | Don't think of it as interest. It's more like my cut of the profit. | „ |
~ Bruno negotiating with Henry Tomasino. |
Bruno Levine is one of the three overarching antagonists (alongside Derek Pappalardo and Ennio Salieri) of Mafia II.
He is voiced by Michael Ingram.
Biography[]
Background[]
Born in 1893, Bruno sits at the top of a network of loan sharks in Empire Bay, and is officially sanctioned by The Commission. He lends mob money to small-time sharks, crooks, and businessmen, charging extortionate rates of interest and backed up by mafia families. He is fair insofar as he treats all debtors equally. He will honor his side of any bargain to the letter, but expects the same in return. Numerous stories exist of those who have failed to pay Bruno back on time. One such story, narrated by Joe, tells of the The Maltese Falcon bathroom attendant, Micky the Crab, who has only a finger and a thumb on one hand. He owed money to Bruno, and it is believed that the two occurrences are related. He has his office in Southport in an alleyway off of Palisade Street.
Mafia II[]
In the fall of 1951, Henry Tomasino, Joe Barbaro, and Vito Scaletta borrow 35 grand from Bruno, and promise to pay him back 55 grand by the end of the week.
The trio use the money to do a major drug deal with the Empire Bay Triads. The deal ends being a bust after Carlo Falcone finds out about it taking sixty grand from their takings. Henry is also found to be a federal informant, and is butchered to death by the Triads who steal the last of the drug money from Henry.
Vito and Joe then spent the rest of the following day earning the cash needed to pay back Bruno. They managed to reach the goal, and Vito went to go pay Bruno back. Bruno was surprised that they were able to pay him back on time, and even offered to extend the deadline for them. Bruno also learned about the trio's heroin business go haywire, and the Triads going to war with the Falcone and Vinci families. He questions Vito on whether he and his friends had anything to do with it, but Vito denies any involvement.
Whilst leaving, Vito learns that Bruno was the same loan shark his father owed $2000. Bruno justifies his actions by saying he didn't make him borrow the money, and also didn't make Vito.
