Bruno Mannheim (DC Animated Universe)

Bruno Mannheim was a supporting antagonist in the DC Animated Universe appearing as a supporting antagonist in Superman: The Animated Series.

He was voiced by Bruce Weitz, who previously voiced Lock-Up in Batman: The Animated Series.

Biography[]

Mannheim lead Metropolis' branch of Intergang, a major criminal syndicate. He soon gets weaponry from Apokolips, allowing him to deal with Superman and the local police force. Eventually, Superman teams up with Dan Turpin to take Mannheim down forcing him to flee to Apokolips where he meets Darkseid, his new lord and master. Instead of killing him for his failure, Darkseid forced Mannheim to stay on Apokolips.

Mannheim was later sent back to Metropolis as part of Darkseid's scheme to invade and conquer Earth. Darkseid had Mannheim overtake a nuclear power plant off the coast of Metropolis, setting the reactor to overload. Darkseid betrays Mannheim by leaving him to die as the reactor goes critical. Mannheim attempts to ride away on his boat after getting it started, but the explosion reaches his boat, killing him.

Personality[]

Mannheim is an unsympathetic, unscrupulous crook who willingly collaborates with Darkseid to further benefit his own personal interests. Mannheim is shown to be quite arrogant and gullible, as he foolishly believed Darkseid would reward him for helping in his plan for Earth, despite knowing that Darkseid held absolutely no regard towards human life. This ultimately led to his well-deserved demise as Darksied nonchalantly sacrifices Bruno once he is of no further use.

In the comic books, Mannheim was Darkseid's chosen apostle on Earth and much more threatening. This version of the character is a regular mob boss who Darksied manipulates to eliminate Superman,
