Glob: Festering scabs! Pus and pox and puke on it all! We came so damned close! Just a few more years. It would have worked.
Brute: No, it would never have worked. But it was fun to try. So... do we sit and watch out old boss pull the bozo's head off...? Or shall we find someplace to lose ourselves, and start the whole thing over again?
~ Brute and Glob realizing Morpheus has found them.

Brute and Glob are minor antagonists of the Sandman comic book series from the DC Universe. They are a pair of nightmares created by the Dream King, with Brute representing brute strength and Glob representing cunning. However, during Dream's absence, they escaped to the Waking World, where they hoped to create their own version of the Dreaming. Latching onto the mind of abused child Jed Walker, they created a fake world, manipulating a dead superhero named Hector Hall into living there as "the Sandman", as well as his wife Lyta. They were eventually caught by their creator, who sentenced them to the void.

Appearance[]

Brute and Glob seem to have been made rather roughly out of a goo-like substance. Glob is tall and muscular, resembling a green humanoid. Glob on the other hand, is more of a pink ball with arms and legs branching off.

Personality[]

As representations of brute strength and cunning, Brute and Glob were meant to be stupid and intelligent respectively. Glob was somewhat cunning and could put together complex plan and set up fail safes to ensure they worked, while Brute simply went along with whatever he did. However, Glob was shortsighted and unable to effectively deal with the Dream King. Additionally, Brute seemed to know their scheme would never work, and went along with it because he believed it would be fun, showing he wasn't as stupid as he came accross.

While existing in Jed's dream, they both played up their stupidity and acted more benevolent in order to play the role of bumbling sidekicks. However, they genuinely were simply power-hungry and selfish, not caring about Jed or anyone else in the slightest.

Biography[]

Brute and Glob were created by the Dream King to terrorize the dreams of humans. However, when Morpheus mysteriously vanished, the two left the Dreaming, hoping to create their own Dream World.

They ended up latching onto the dreams of a child named Jed Walker, who was being abused by his aunt and uncle. Taking advantage of his desire for escapism and supernaturally making the abuse continue, they created a world inside his dream. They grabbed the ghost of a dead superhero named Hector Hall, as well as his living wife Lyta Hall, and created a world where Jed fought evil with them as he slept.

Their attempt at making their own version of the Dreaming ended when they were confronted by Morpheus who had them sentenced to the abyss for their crimes, while destroying the world they had created by murdering Hector and releasing Lyta and Jed. Although he eventually freed them, they remained loyal and obedient to him after their ordeal.

Powers and Abilities[]

  • Intelect: Although somewhat shortsighted, Brute and Glob each had a certain cunning. They were able to formulate a fairly complex plan and knew how to get both Hector and Jed to fall right into their hands.
  • Dream Manipulation: The two were able to create an entire world inside of Jed's mind, populated by genuine human souls. This is a somewhat impressive feat only ever accomplished by Morpheus himself. The Dream King even complemented the craftiness that went into their defenses.

Trivia[]

  • Brute and Glob did not appear in the Netflix adaptation, instead being replaced with the more heroic Gault.
