Bruticus is a minor antagonist in the Transformers franchise. Most versions of the character are the combined form of the Combaticons.
Generation One[]
Cartoon[]
Bruticus first appeared in the late second season episode "Starscream's Brigade". Starscream created the Combaticons in order to challenge Megatron for leadership. Bruticus defeated Devastator but was himself defeated by Menasor, with the Combaticons being sent into exile. In the following episode, "The Revenge of Bruticus", the Combaticons again formed Bruticus to fight a team-up of Autobots and Decepticons. Starscream used a failsafe to deactivate him. The Autobots believed he had been destroyed but in fact he had been reprogrammed to serve Megatron.
Bruticus assisted Megatron in "Aerial Assault" but was defeated by Superion. In the season finale, "B.O.T.", he was blown apart by Defensor, and took some time to get back together when Swindle sold his various parts. He eventually operated the Decepticons' cannon in their assault on the Ark until the human-created robot BOT took control of it.
He made his first season three appearance in "Fight or Flee", acting as Galvatron's aide in his occupation of Paradron. After battling Defensor again in "The Burden Hardest to Bear", he made his last appearance in "The Return of Optimus Prime" being infected by the Hate Plague during a raid on Mark Morgan and Gregory Swofford's laboratory.
He was voiced by the late Roger C. Carmel, who also voiced Motormaster and was the first actor to voice Menasor and Cyclonus, as well as playing Harry Mudd in Star Trek.
Marvel Comics[]
Bruticus first appeared in the UK-exclusive story "Second Generation", when Buster Witwicky had a nightmare of seeing the Combaticons form him, a result of his link with the Creation Matrix. Buster and Optimus Prime later saw a further vision where Bruticus came to Menasor's aid against Defensor only for Menasor to accidentally shoot him. Shockwave and the Decepticons monitored this and began construction of Bruticus.
Bruticus made his first Marvel US appearance in Issue #24, as Megatron had the Combaticons combine into Bruticus during a confrontation with Optimus Prime and Defensor. Bruticus captured the human scientist Ethan Zachary, who convinced the two factions to fight in virtual reality. He made his second and final appearance in Issue #35, where he again fought Defensor and defeated him. He turned his attention to Blaster, who convinced him he had turned against the Autobots and "proved" it by pretending to kill a human boy. Bruticus was so busy being impressed he failed to see Blaster striking him with a pylon before it was too late.
