Brutus, or The Warden as he is referred to by Edward Richtofen and the in-game subtitles, is the antagonist of the Zombies Map Blood of the Dead in Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
He is voiced by Nolan North, who is famous for voicing a handful of iconic characters such as the Adventure Sphere from Portal 2, Nathan Drake from Uncharted and Edward Richtofen .
Origin
The warden was a minion to some unknown power that held a clear influence over him. He would listen to and take orders from that power by rituals and prayers. These orders included having Sal, Billy and Finn sent to death for the murder of Albert Arlington due to his escape plan failing, and trapping Edward Richtofen, Tank Dempsey, Nikolai Belinski and Takeo Masaki in the Alcatraz Pocket Dimension by destroying the portal they intended to escape through.
Mob of the Dead
In the original Mob of the Dead map, Brutus was a mini-boss who would spawn periodically to chase down the four playable characters: Sal, Finn, Billy and Weasel. He is faster than normal zombies and is also capable of locking down certain elements around the prison such as the Mystery Box, Perk Machines, Workbenches for crafting equipment and even the plane the mobsters intended to use to escape the prison.
Blood of the Dead
In Blood of the Dead, Brutus was responsible for destroying the portal Primis intended to use to escape the prison. He behaves similarly to how he does in Mob of the Dead, except he also reappears as the main boss fight in the map's main Easter Egg.
Trivia
- Cut quotes from Mob of the Dead, along with quotes from Sal DeLuca, suggest Brutus was Stanley Ferguson, a guard that Albert Arlington killed in the purgatory version of Alcatraz, as well as being heard in the background of several of the Warden's audio logs. However, this cannot be true as Brutus is depicted as the soul of the Warden of Alcatraz in Black Ops 4's Blood of the Dead.
- It is highly possible that the higher power Brutus is working for and is given his immortality from is in fact the Shadowman. This is due to the Apothicon chanting Brutus uses during the Primis crew's confrontation with him in Blood of the Dead.
