Hey, can I help it if your pal is delicate?
~ McCann to a fellow cadet after breaking a cadet's arm.

Buck McCann is the main antagonist of the episode of the original G.I. Joe series "The Rotten Egg". He is a former cadet, ally of COBRA and the archenemy of G.I. Joe member Leatherneck.

He was voiced by Dick Gautier, who also voiced Serpentor in the series.

Biography[]

Buck McCann was one of the toughest and most skilled cadets at CEC Military Academy, training at a time Leatherneck worked there. He also was a bully who took pleasure in hurting others. For example, during a training exercise he broke a fellow cadet's arm. When another cadet called him out and went to take the injured cadet to the infirmary, McCann tripped them and laughed. For this, Leatherneck had him run 50 laps around the parade ground and withdrew his recommendation for him for officer candidate school. One night, Buck and two other men were smuggling weapons but they get caught by Leatherneck. McCann however knocked him out.

In the present, McCann has taken over the CEC, renaming its acronym to Cobra Elite Corps and being served by cadets Mike P. Randall and Sheila McDermott. He lures Leatherneck there by inviting him to a supposed CEC graduation ceremony, and captures him when he arrives. On the grounds of the academy, McCann has him freed and tells Leatherneck he will give him five minutes to escape before the Cobra cadets go after him. However, when Leatherneck runs off McCann immediately orders his cadets after him, saying he lied. After Sheila knocks out Leatherneck, McCann holds him prisoner in the infirmary and reveals his plan to attack the Parris Island Military Academy at the graduation ceremony, which the Joes are invited to. Before leaving with the cadets, he orders two cadets guard Leatherneck, threatening to "make mince meat" out of them if he escapes. Leatherneck escapes shortly afterward, which McCann expected. When McCann and his cadets (disguised as a marching band) arrive at Parris Island, he stuns the guards with sleeping gas. McCann has his two right-hand cadets plant the explosives and then begins the attack. He seizes the commandant, intending to take him to Serpentor, but Leatherneck ambushes him from behind. As the Joes, Dreadnoks and Cobra cadets battle, McCann grabs the detonator and runs off to escape through a jet. Leatherneck pursues and catches him, before engaging in a one-on-one battle and defeating him. McCann and his cadets are then taken away by the Joes.
