Bud Horton is the tritagonist of the 2017 horror film Leatherface, the prequel to the original 1974 film The Texas Chain Saw Massacre in the 3D timeline of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise.
He was a former patient of the Gormon House Youth Reformery and is the best friend of Jedidiah "Jackson" Sawyer.
He was portrayed by Sam Coleman.
Biography[]
Bud was brought to the Gormon House Youth Reformery, an institution meant for troubled youths, at an unknown age and from time to time he would be put into different foster homes. One time he had a pet dog whom his foster father took away, his reaction being to bludgeon him into a coma. As a result he was brought back to the institution.
One day in 1965, Bud was hanging out with Jackson and met Lizzy when Ike started trouble. When Ike was assaulting Lizzy, Bud protected her and the two of the boys got put into the electrotherapy chamber due to their misbehavior. Later that night, when Bud was being tortured by guards, Jackson's guardian, Verna Sawyer, came to the institution and caused a riot. Bud broke free of his restraints and beat the guards to death, freeing Ike as well. During the riot, Bud murdered Dr. Gormon (the owner of the institution) by smashing his head onto a glass window in his office. Bud then proceeded to walk away from the building until joining Ike and his girlfriend Clarice who were holding Jackson and Lizzy hostage.
After a while, they all left the car and changed clothes. Ike planned on going to Mexico and the former patients agreed with the plan, they started walking until they find a diner in the morning. Bud was told to stay outside of the diner while the rest ate inside, but Ike started a massacre within and during the escape, Bud got shot by the only survivor. They all stole a car and drove off from the place until they ran out of gas, walking until they found an abandoned RV home. Bud was put to rest and slept. After a few hours he was put on watch, but failed at his job when Lizzy attempted to run away. Ike was angry at Bud and questioned his existence, this infuriated Bud enough to curb stomp Ike and then he slept on his dead body.
Once waking up, he, Jackson and Lizzy hear Clarice's warning of cops. The trio hide and witness Clarice's death by the hands of Sheriff Hartmann. The three begin to run when they realize the police have dogs, to which they hide under a muddy, rotting cow carcass. Once the cops pass by, Bud, Lizzy and Jackson continue walking, covered in blood, until Lizzy spots a police car and calls for help. Bud approaches the cop but gets shot multiple times, the cop then shoots Bud in the head, ending him.

- He served as the red herring for who would become Leatherface.
- In the script for the film he was originally going to be deformed with a cleft lip, this was not implemented into the final film however.
- His death contributed to Jackson's sanity slippage.
