Collingsworth "Bud" Wilson a.k.a. Collie is the main antagonist of the 1973 American teen horror/suspense novel I know What You Did Last Summer. Wilson is the older brother of David Gregg, a boy on a bike who was struck dead by four teenagers in a car and swore revenge once he found out all their names.

Biography[]

David's murder wasn't solved after Julie James, Ray Bronson, Barry Cox, and Helen Rivers, barreled down the mountains in their car after partying and ran him off the road when they weren't looking. His mother had to be committed to a mental hospital in Las Lunas, his father leaving him and his sister Megan behind to watch over their mother. The four teens made a pact to never tell the truth to anyone, which broke all their relationships, but Julie was overwhelmed by guilt enough to send yellow flowers to David's funeral anonymously. Wilson realized Julie sent the flowers when he spoke with the florist, then stalked her around to find the other three teens. He sent the group messages a year later on the anniversary of the killing, starting with sending Julie a note saying "I know what you did last summer". He then sends clippings from newspapers and magazines to the trio, from a news story of David's death to a photo of a boy on a bike.

Wilson had gotten close to the foursome by infiltrating their lives, dating Julie after her breakup with Ray by giving his nickname Bud, which David called him out of not pronouncing his full name well. Under his full name, he moved into his apartment complex. As Bud, he told Julie he was done with military service, but that was never confirmed. Wilson lures Barry to a meeting to allegedly sell a picture of the crash that killed David, but Wilson instead shoots Barry in the stomach, nearly paralyzing him. Ray and Julie casually use a ruse to speak with Megan about the family. Barry, who withheld he was shot by the stalker, calls Helen to warn her, but Wilson gets there to confront her first. Revealing his true identity, Wilson tries to kill Helen, but she locks herself in the bathroom, then jumps out a window to flee. Knowing Wilson's after Julie, Helen sends the police to her family's house with Ray getting a head start. Wilson lures Julie outside and tries to strangle her to death, snarling he knew she sent the flowers. Ray bludgeons Wilson unconscious with a flashlight, and the police arrest him. Ray knew Wilson wasn't going to attack him to make him pay by not having Julie in his life.
