Bugsy Calhoun was a mean, miserable, cold-blooded gangster in Harlem Nights.
He was portrayed by Michael Lerner.
We first see him in his apartment, when one of his men, Tony, gets in trouble for picking out Tommy Smalls. When he does that, he warns Tony never to do it again. He then lets go of the piano door on Tony's hand, crushing it. This causes great pain in Tony. He then orders Tony and Phil to go out and kill Tommy Smalls. Later on he tries to outsmart Quick and Ray when it's found out that they bet on the fighter Jenkins just to get all the money. Later, a few nights later, he invites Quick to dinner to discuss a business proposition. He wants Quick and Ray to work for him. This enrages Quick, who leaves. When it doesn't go as planned, he has Dominique sleep with Quick, to kill him later on. That doesn't work either, as Quick kills her. This enrages Calhoun, so much so that he gives a threat to Ray: "He's gonna make to less Jigs in the world--one old, and one young. Now when you see Quick I suggest you make plans to go elsewhere, cause I'm getting tired of playing around with you fucking Jigs." The next morning, he has Phil take out the Club Sugar Ray's, but in retaliation, they take out Calhoun's Pittyback Club, which infuriates Calhoun, and causes him to lash out. When Richie Vento, one of Calhoun's men, fails to come with his money, he belittles him, calls him "retarded" and a "fucking moron." When Vera Walker tricks Calhoun into think Ray and Quick are at their place, he and his men go inside, only to be killed in an ambush--a bomb.
