The Bull Demon King is the main antagonist of the anime movie Doraemon: The Record of Nobita's Parallel Visit to the West. He is the leader of the demons and the husband of Queen Iron Fan, who seeks to conquer the world and turn humanity into demons. He was loosely based on the original version from the novel Journey to the West.
He was voiced by Hidekatsu Shibata, who also voiced Zennon in the 1972 Devilman series.
Appearance[]
The Bull Demon King is described as gigantic, whose size dwarfed most, if not all of the other characters in the movie. His armor also has a red Chinese character that means "King" in the center.
Personality[]
The Bull Demon King is portrayed as a sadistic tyrant, who has no problem of killing and eating innocent people. He's also cunning, capable of making a strategy to capture Xuanzang so the demons can eat him and evolve. Though he wasn't shown being protective towards his wife and son like his original counterpart, it's presumed that he still retains those traits, regardless of being depicted as more evil. This is shown when Linlei feels grief over his and Queen Iron Fan's deaths.
History[]
Like other demons, the Bull Demon King along with his wife Queen Iron Fan escaped from Doraemon's gaming machine due to Doraemon forgetting to turn it off and leaving it in ancient China. As the supreme leaders of all the demons (seen when the Golden and Silver Horned Kings, other two demons in the original novel, served them), he and his wife set up plans to eat Xuanzang so that the demons can evolve into more humanoid beings by sending their son, Linlei to spy on him. They succeeded, leading to the present being altered as all inhabitants on Earth were descended from the demons.
The heroes would then travel back in time to undo the demons' victory, but the Bull Demon King succeeded in capturing Xuanzang along with Doraemon, Nobita, Shizuka, Suneo and Jaian with the help of Linlei, but eventually Nobita escaped and fought him. The Bull Demon King would then be killed by Nobita (who he believed to be Sun Wukong) in the fight, disposing all the demons' magic in the process. Queen Iron Fan, due to this, died shortly afterwards by falling into the lava below. Linlei later redeemed himself and joined Xuanzang in the latter's journey to India in honor of his deceased parents and the demons.
