~ Bullseye seconds before killing Elektra. |
Bullseye is the secondary antagonist of the 2003 superhero film Daredevil and a minor antagonist in the 2024 Marvel Cinematic Universe film Deadpool & Wolverine. He is a cold-blooded professional assassin known for his impeccable marksmanship. Eventually, Bullseye is hired by the Kingpin to kill Matt Murdock as well as Nicholas Natchios and his family.
He was portrayed by Colin Farrell, who also played Bobby Pellitt in Horrible Bosses, a version of Tony Shepard in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Jerry Dandridge in the Fright Night remake, Carl Hauser in the Total Recall remake, Percival Graves in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Oswald Cobb/the Penguin in The Batman. In Deadpool & Wolverine, he is portrayed by Curtis Rowland Small.
Personality[]
Bullseye, like his comic counterpart, is a sadistic psychopath and a narcissist who enjoys hurting others. He kills people either out of payment, out of annoyance or just because he has fun doing it. He enjoys mocking and toying weaker opponents. When around women he finds attractive, like the stewardess on his plane or Elektra during their fight, he acts suave and flirtatious. Elektra in particular he quickly develops a sadistic attraction to, he enjoys hitting on her because he loves provoking her and forcefully kisses her when he kills her. When he's unable to fight back, he becomes a sniveling coward begging for mercy. He also takes pride in his skills, taking Daredevil dodging his attack personal.
Biography[]
Daredevil[]
Bullseye uses shurikens carried in his belt buckle as his main weapon, although he uses many small objects, including peanuts (he uses this to kill an annoying and ever-complaining old woman who seats next to him on the plane by shooting the peanut at her mouth at high speed, causing her to choke to dead due to the peanut sealing off her windpipe) paperclips, playing cards, Daredevil's billy club, shards of broken glass, and a pencil as back-up. He is hired by the Kingpin to kill Nicholas Natchois. Bullseye kills him with Daredevil's billy club, causing his daughter Elektra to believe that Daredevil is the killer.
Bullseye begins to perceive Daredevil a personal challenge, because he is the only target he has ever missed. Later, Elektra attacks Daredevil, seeking revenge, but soon realizes Bullseye killed her father. Elektra and Bullseye battle, and kills her with one of her sai (in the Director's Cut, Bullseye deals more injuries to her and while impaling her, gives her a kiss by biting down on her lower lip).
Daredevil chases Bullseye to a church, and they battle until Daredevil maneuvers Bullseye's hands to be shot by a S.W.A.T. sniper, leaving him with wounds resembling stigmata. Daredevil grabs him and throws him out of a window, crashing onto the hood of Ben Urich's car. A final scene shows him hospitalized but still be able to flick a hypodermic needle with enough force and accuracy to impale a fly. He is to be incarcerated and head to prison when he heals.
Deadpool & Wolverine[]
At some point, Bullseye was sent to the Void and become a member of Cassandra Nova's Crew. He was killed during the battle against Deadpool, Wolverine and the Resistance.
Trivia[]
- During the movie's release, Bullseye was designed to resemble his movie counterpart (minus the facial hair).
- Vin Diesel was considered to play Bullseye at one point.
- Colin Farrell was considered for the part of Daredevil, until Ben Affleck signed on the dotted line. Ironically enough, Farrell eventually established the part of Bullseye, for which Affleck was considered.
- His role as Bullseye was the first time Colin Farrell ever used his own Irish accent in an American movie.
- Colin Farrell had his Bullseye applied in make-up every day. If he sweated too much, it would start to bubble.
- At around 40 minutes in the film if one looks closely at Colin Farrell in Bullseye's opening scene in the pub, it can be seen that his neck and the top of his chest are peeling. This is a sunburn from which Colin Farrell was suffering at the time of filming, as he'd returned from a vacation in Mexico.
- Bullseye from Daredevil was the first comic book character Colin Farrell played on his career. The second was Oswald Cobblepot from The Batman.
- Given that the Bullseye in Deadpool & Wolverine isn't played by Colin Farrell, there's the possibility he's not the same one from Elektra's world. She doesn't acknowledge his existence, much less display any interest in going after him specifically. Either it's a variant, or she's lost interest in revenge after being stuck in the Void for so long.
