Bullseye is a major antagonist in the Marvel Universe, specifically serving as the secondary antagonist of the Daredevil franchise, and a major antagonist in The Punisher and Thunderbolts franchises.

He is a psychopathic, opportunistic assassin who uses his occupation to fulfil his sadistic tendancies, and to seek revenge on the hero Daredevil. He is known for his ability to utilize any object he finds as a deadly weapon, most notably playing cards. Since his debut, he has become known as one of Daredevil's most ruthless and enduring foes, having been responsible for numerous events and tragedies in the hero's life, such as the deaths of his love interests Elektra and Karen Page.

He appears as a villain in numerous storylines, such as the titular protagonist villain of the miniseries Bullseye: Greatest Hits. He is one of Daredevil's two archenemies (alongside Kingpin), and has appeared as an enemy towards numerous others heroes/anti-heroes, such as The Punisher, Deadpool, Hit-Monkey, Spider-Boy, Spider-Man and Hawkeye.

Overview[]

Bullseye grew up in The Bronx, New York City with his brother and their abusive father. His brother played with rifles as his main form of recreation, quickly becoming a crack shot. At the age of 10, Bullseye's brother set fire to their apartment in an attempt to kill their father, but was unsuccessful. Bullseye was subsequently placed in a foster home and played baseball while in high school; his talent as a pitcher led to him being offered a college athletic scholarship, but he turned it down to play in the minor leagues. After playing three games, he was called to play in a sold-out Major Leagues game; at the bottom of the ninth with two outs, having surrendered no hits the entire game, Bullseye grew bored and requested his coach to pull him from the game. The coach angrily refused and ordered him to finish the game, with the opposing team's batter mockingly accusing him of cowardice. In response, Bullseye threw the ball into the batters head, killing him; as the ball struck, he simply uttered "Bullseye". He was subsequently convicted for manslaughter and barred from playing baseball professionally.

Eventually, Bullseye's unique skills and cold demeanor led to him being recruited as an assassin by the National Security Agency. Assigned to Nicaragua to train Contra guerillas, he secretly planned to leave the NSA and rob the rebels, only to discover upon his arrival that the Contras were poor and destitute. Seven hours following this discovery, making the best out of the situation, Bullseye led the Contras to capture an landing strip operated by a group Colombian cocaine smugglers as a staging area before transporting drugs into the US; with the landing strip captured, the smugglers were unable to send out new shipments. Bullseye then used his Nicaraguan translator Paolo as the figurehead leader of his force, letting word spread around before inviting several criminal organizations to broker a new deal with him through his patsy; his plan was to steal the money from the deal and disappear, leaving Paolo as the fall guy to face the combined wrath of the Mafia, Russian Mafia and Yakuza among criminal other elements. However, before the deal could be finalized, the meeting was interrupted by the Punisher, who killed the organized crime leaders in a fiery explosion.

Barely escaping the blast, Bullseye fought the Punisher fiercely, managing to evade or disable several of his weapons. Painting a bullseye on his forehead with blood-colored mud, he mocked the vigilante's inability to hit him, with the fight continuing until they were interrupted by agents of the Drug Enforcement Administration, causing the Punisher to retreat while Bullseye surrendered to the agents. Bullseye's next assignment was to infiltrate the Kingpin's criminal empire; upon obtaining a costume, he once again fled and established himself as one of the world's most dangerous assassins.

It should be noted that this story was given by Bullseye during an interrogation by US Intelligence; during his subsequent escape, he admitted to making up some if not all of it for his own amusement, claiming that he had actually been the one to set his childhood home on fire. His had purposfully allowed himself to get captured so that he could gain access to the prison holding his father to get revenge on him, using the facility's security systems to torch the place while leaving his father to die in the blaze.

The assassin-for-hire has worked for several crime bosses and villains, including the Kingpin and Mysterio. Although he possesses no real powers, Bullseye has an uncanny sense of aim and can use any small object as a deadly projectile. He has killed people with toothpicks, pencils, cards, and other ordinary objects, hurling them with fatal accuracy. At one point during his career, his backbone was shattered by a fall after a fight with Daredevil and his spine, skull, and fists are coated in Adamantium, giving his bones superhuman durability and increasing his pain tolerance.

Bullseye himself has stated that he killed his own mother. He also killed Elektra, Daredevil's partner, and lover, with her own sai. However, she was later revived by The Hand.

Although primarily a Daredevil villain, Bullseye has battled Spider-Man, Deadpool, The Punisher, and the X-Men's Archangel. Additionally, he served as a member of the Dark Avengers under the guise of Hawkeye until Norman Osborn's arrest. During the events of Shadowland, Daredevil, who had become the leader of the Hand, killed Bullseye in a fit of rage which led to him becoming the host of an ancient demon called the Beast. An attempt was made to revive Bullseye as a servant of the Hand but was stopped by a group consisting of Spider-Man, Elektra, Wolverine, The Punisher, Iron Fist, Luke Cage and several other street-based superheroes.

Appearance[]

Bullseye is seen wearing a while and blue suit that covers his entire body except his mouth. He has while boots and gloves with black stripes on the side, a while belt, blue pants with side pouches, blue shirt that is showing his abs mixed with a while collar and a hood that covers up his face except his mouth with a bullseye on the top. Underneath his face is his bald head that was originally blond with hair and blue eyes.

Bullseye appears as the secondary antagonist of Netflix's Marvel's Daredevil Season 3 and returns in the Disney+ tv series DaredeviL: Born Again. This version of the character is a member of the FBI whose legal name is Benjamin "Dex" Poindexter. He is portrayed by Wilson Bethel, who also played Randy Jacobs in Criminal Minds.
