This is my operating room, okay? Stop chatting and do what I say, so I can actually do some work! Just let me work in peace, okay?
~ Byeong-gi shouting at the guards to stay silent while working on a deceased contestant while sleep-deprived.

Byeong-gi, also referred to as Player 111, is a supporting antagonist in Season 1 of the 2021 South Korean Netflix drama Squid Game.

He was portrayed by Yoo Sung-joo, and voiced by Brian Kim in the English dub.

Biography[]

Byeong-gi is a former doctor who lost his license to practice medicine, sending him dwindling into financial ruin. He is subsequently recruited as a contestant in the Squid Game. Secretly, Byeong-gi has bargained an alliance with corrupt Masked Men, harvesting the organs of deceased contestants for the workers to sell on the black market, in exchange for information about upcoming games. He bargains an alliance with Jang Deok-su's gang of brutes, who use Byeong-gi's knowledge of the upcoming games to survive the Tug-of-War.

After surviving the Tug-of-War, Byeong-gi becomes increasingly frustrated by the workers who are distracting him from performing his surgery on a deceased contestant. Byeong-gi has a mental breakdown after the workers reveal they do not know anything about the next game. Believing the workers are hiding information from him, Beyeng-gi becomes increasingly violent, stabbing one of the workers to death after he makes a move for his gun. Byeong-gi runs.

He arms himself with a crowbar as another worker chases after him, attempting to alleviate the situation by bargaining with Byeong-gi, explaining that both will die unless they stop. The worker calms down Byeong-gi, but right before the worker attempts to kill him, he is shot by the Front Man. Once the Front Man leaves, a masked soldier shoots Byeong-gi to death with a machine gun.

Byeong-gi's body, as well as his deceased conspirators, were strung up the next day and shown to all the surviving contestants, to demonstrate the consequences of violating the rules of the game.
