CX-2 is a major antagonist in Season 3 of Star Wars: The Bad Batch. He is a Clone Assassin working for Dr. Royce Hemlock.
He was voiced by Dee Bradley Baker.
Biography[]
CX-2 was once a regular Clone Trooper that likely fought in the Clone Wars. Following the end of the war, he was captured and reconditioned into a Clone X Assassin by Dr. Royce Hemlock. He was first deployed when CX-1 was captured by The Clone Underground, the assassin was ordered by Scorch to neutralize him. The assassin arrived on Teth, landing his starship in a nearby forest before following CX-1’s impact beacon into a spire. As he prepares to execute his target, he realized the presence of Hemlock’s primary target, the young Clone Omega. He informed Scorch of his discovery, who in turn sent a team led by Commander Wolffe to apprehend Omega. CX-2 then detonated a series of explosives he had placed throughout the base, before sniping CX-1 and engaging the rogue Clones. As most of the Clones retreated, Fireball engages CX-2 with a flamethrower but the assassin shoots him, causing him to drop the flamethrower and accidentally activate a thermal detonator, causing a cave-in that crushed the assassin under rubble.
He later crawled out of the rubble and met with Wolffe. Wolffe chastised the assassin for putting Omega in danger with his reckless methods. Despite Wolffe’s orders, CX-2 nonetheless continued his pursuit of Omega. He shot down Omega’s shuttle and chased the Clones into the jungle. He would eventually attack and fight Crosshair near a waterfall. He taunted Crosshair for abandoning the Empire and for failing to become A Clone Assassin. He nearly drowns Crosshair but he is stunned by the Clone Howzer and falls off the waterfall. However, CX-2 managed to survive the fall and continued his search for Omega.
He sought out an old ally of Clone Force 99, Ciddarin Scaleback. He interrogated and likely tortured the Trandoshan and learned the clones were in contact with a pirate named, Phee Genoa. He later informs Hemlock of this, when the latter contacted him for an update on his efforts. The assassin tracked down the pirate and learned Omega was hiding out on Pabu. The assassin informs Scorch of this, who sends a legion of TK stormtroopers to attack and invade Pabu. To prevent his targets from escaping, the assassin blows up their ship, The Marauder, injuring Wrecker in the process.
When Mayor Shep Hazard confronted CX-2 over his attack on the village, The assassin warned that if Omega was not turned over, the village would be destroyed. While searching for Omega, the assassin was informed that Hunter was trying to commander a vessel, CX-2 simply just shot the pilot dead to prevent Hunter from escaping.
Just as the Assassin ordered the stormtroopers to start burning down homes, Omega arrived and surrendered to save the village. The assassin had her searched for any devices and confiscated a comlink from her. The assassin took Omega aboard her vessel and returned her to Tantiss Base.
Sometime later, Clone Force 99 launched an attack on Tantiss Base to free Omega and the other prisoners. In respons, Hemlock sent CX-2 to stop them along with four new Clone Assassins to aid CX-2. The squad engaged Clone Force 99 and easily subdued them. Near the end of the fight, the assassin cut off Crosshair’s shooting hand when he tried to his comrades. The assassins took the Clones to Hemlock, who had them tortured in order to convert them into Clone X Troopers. CX-2 was later present when Hemlock stopped Omega from freeing her brothers. However, unbeknownst to both of them Omega managed to free Wrecker of his restraints. Minutes later, Wrecker escaped and CX-2 was knocked to the ground. Dr. Hemlock then cuffs himself to Omega, before taking the assassin’s pistol and control brace in an attempt to escape. As CX-2 got back on his feet, he attempted to shoot a recuperating Hunter from behind, but was stopped by Crosshair, allowing Hunter to throw an Electrospear into his chest, impaling him into a machine and electrocuting him to death.
Not long after his death, Hemlock uses his control brace to summon the operative’s ship to flee Tantiss, only for the ship to be blown up by Hunter and Crosshair, who then swiftly shoot Hemlock to death.
Personality[]
Like all Clone X-Troopers, CX-2 is a completely loyal and fanatic Clone soldat to the Galactic Empire due to Hemlock's conditioning program he was forced down. This made him to a cold-blooded assassin who, unlike most other clones, has no qualms about killing renegate Clone Troopers, even though they are his brothers. CX-2 is best known for his disregard for others, as he carelessly shot a pilot just to stop Hunter from commandeering a shuttle. He also frequently ignored Wolffe’s orders, implying that he preferred to work alone or just likes being in charge of his missions.
In addition, he also looked down upon Crosshair for failing to become a clone assassin. Out of all of the Clone Force 99 members, CX-2 seemed to have a personal enmity with Crosshair, because he seemed enraged that Crosshair chose to resist Hemlock’s reconditioning and cut off his shooting hand out of an act of petty spite. He does have a bit of an honorable side as after he found Omega in Pabu, he stopped attacking the city, even though he could easily execute the civilians for harboring Omega.

Trivia[]
- Some fans theorized that Hemlock was lying about not finding Tech’s body and he could be CX-2. However, the theory is still left in speculation since CX-2 was ultimately killed before his identity could be revealed. If the assassin were confirmed to be a brainwashed Tech, it would certainly explain the assassin’s rivalry with Crosshair.
