~ Trots' letter to Cadal, discussing the safety issues on the Beira D. |
Cadal Oil Ltd. or Cadal for short, are the overarching antagonist of Still Wakes the Deep, it is an off-shore rig company who is responsible for the creation of the Beira D. oil rig, on wich the game takes place.
Biography[]
Cadal Oil Ltd. was created in 1972 in Aberdeen, Scotland and quickly became, according to itself, "the world leading pioneer in technical know-how [and] the #1 energy provider to the United Kingdom."
In 1975, the company underwent budget cuts wich caused many electronics on their rigs (including the Beira D.) to be inoperable including the mechanisms of launching lifeboats. The budget cuts also caused water to leak into some rooms like O'Connor's cabin. This, of course, was seen as a massive safety violation by the crew, especially by the union representative, I. Campbell, who planned a strike for the crew to express their dissatisfaction.
This strike would never come to fruition, as on the 26th of december the Beira D. site manager insisted on countinuing a drilling operation in a careless want to produce more oil for money, despite the drillers warning him about a problem. This problem turned out to be much worse than anyone could imagine as an enormous parasite attached itself to the drill and began spreading to the rest of the rig, infecting every crewmember unfortunate enough to touch it.
During the disaster, a suriving crewmber tried using the lifeboats wich were inoperable and ended up falling into the North see. The failling infrastructure also ended up beeing a nuissance to survivors and infected as it easily collapsed on some, trapping and killing them. In the end, the Beira D. was destroyed in an explosion that night alongside the creature that invaded it and every single crewmember present on board.
