John "Caesar" McKenzie is the main antagonist of the 2013 video game Ride to Hell: Retribution. He is the leader of the Devil's Hand motorcycle gang seeking to murder the Conway family as payback for their patriarch, William "Toledo" Conway, refusing to let him run the Retribution gang as he wished.
He was voiced by Leer Leary.
Biography[]
Caesar was once the second-in-command to Toledo Conway, the leader of the Retribution motorcycle gang. However, Caesar's ambitions and violent nature led him to take control of Retribution for himself, renaming it the Devil's Hand. As the sole remaining member of Retribution, Toledo offered to gamble his girlfriend on a motorcycle race with Caesar to try and reclaim control of the gang, to which Caesar agreed. Caesar won the race, but Toledo slashed his face and ran away with his girlfriend.
Furious, Caesar issued a kill order for Toledo and his entire family, passing the order down through the ranks of the Devil's Hand. He eventually tracked down Toledo and his girlfriend and murdered them by throwing them off a cliff, but not before their two sons, Jake (the hero of the game) and Mikey, were left in the care of their uncle Mack, who was under strict orders not to reveal the truth of their father or the kill order on them.
In the years that followed, Caesar was left to believe that Conway's sons and their uncle had vanished, and the gang's most powerful members were placed in charge of various front companies for the gang across town. He also fathered a daughter, Ellie, who left him due to his murderous nature and ended up befriending the Conways.
Ride to Hell: Retribution[]
After Jake Conway returns from Vietnam, Mikey leaves to see a concert with Ellie against Mack's orders. Jake follows him to a restaurant, where a handful of Devil's Hand members stumble upon the brothers and realize that Toledo's sons are still alive. Chasing the two, the bikers kill Mikey and wound Jake, who sets off to avenge his brother and find out why Mikey was murdered.
Jake hunts down and interrogates the Devil's Hand's members one by one, eventually piecing together that the gang's leader ordered the deaths of him and his brother. As Ellie starts helping Jake in his quest, Caesar starts collecting henchmen and weapons in preparation for a confrontation with Jake. Summoning Jake to an abandoned baseball stadium by murdering a wounded Mack, Caesar reveals the truth about the late Toledo Conway to Jake before leaving his minions to kill Jake as he escapes on a motorcycle.
Jake succeeds in fighting off the goons and catching up to Caesar before gouging his eyes off and sending him speeding off a cliff to his death.
