Dr. Caldera is a supporting character in the legal crime drama series Better Call Saul. He is a veterinarian with connections to the Albuquerque criminal underworld who provides illegal contacts and work for his clients.
He was portrayed by Joe De Rosa.
History[]
Season 1[]
Dr. Caldera stitches up a gunshot wound in Mike's shoulder and gives him some painkillers despite his objections. He also offers to help Mike find work, but Mike declines.
Mike visits Caldera again and has him examine a shelter dog he adopted. During the examination, Mike asks if Caldera can still offer him the "work" he previously mentioned. Caldera replies it depends on the types of work he is interested in.
Season 2[]
Mike visits Caldera for the third time and inquires which jobs are available. Caldera offers him a bodyguard job for 200 dollars. When Mike looks for a job that pays more, Caldera tells Mike he will need a job that requires more work and says he knows a loan shark in need of an enforcer. Mike decides to take the bodyguard job, as he does not want a job that involves hurting people. Later, Caldera calls Mike and tells him that someone is specifically requesting Mike for a "next-level" job.
Season 3[]
After finding that his car was bugged, Mike sets up a secret meeting with Caldera at a rail yard in the middle of the night. Caldera agrees to help Mike with his request for a tracking device similar to the one on his vehicle, but warns him that it will cost double due to the late notice. He also asks if Mike has been properly caring for his dog.
Jimmy visits Caldera with a goldfish in a bag as a cover, to which Caldera rebukes him for having barely any oxygen in the bag. Jimmy requests Caldera to help him find a professional pickpocket, which leads Caldera to put him in touch with Huell Babineaux.
Season 4[]
Jimmy is looking for someone to steal a Hummel figurine from Neff Copiers. While Caldera talking to the client via phone, a frustrated Jimmy waits outside his office, before barging into the room. Caldera says his client is not interested and despite telling Jimmy it is against the protocol for him to directly contact the client, Jimmy forces Caldera to let him speak to the client, and sets up a meeting with this person, who is later revealed to be Ira. Caldera is also sought by The Cousins to save the life of Nacho Varga, who has been shot. Nacho is taken to a disused Jiffy Lube, where Caldera performs surgery on him and gives him a blood transfusion from Marco. When Nacho wakes up, Caldera informs him he had to leave a bullet in his shoulder and on his condition, advising him to see a doctor with imaging technology, before telling him not to see him again as he does not want to be involved in the Cartel's business.
Season 6[]
Caldera gives Jimmy a drug that dilates one's eyes, which Jimmy requests as part of his and Kim's plan against Howard Hamlin. However, by now Caldera has grown tired of the criminal lifestyle and is about to leave Albuquerque to have a full-time job as a vet, which is what he loves the most. Before departing, Caldera sells Jimmy his notebook of criminal contacts. The book also has several business cards, among them for Best Quality Vacuum, revealing that Caldera has connections to Ed Galbraith.
